Do you go on a liquid diet pre op with the removal?

Recommended Posts

Just curious, they made such a big deal about shrinking the liver down pre op when I got the lap band put it. I assume it would be the same when taking it out.

Yes I mean with a lap band removal. When they put it in I had to go on a liquid diet for two weeks before the surgery with the idea that the resulting weight loss would significantly impact the size of the liver leading to a safer surgery. I am just now looking into having mine removed due to complications, I have yet to get to talk to a surgeon yet as I have a few steps to go through before I can get a referral and insurance coverage...So naturally I figured I would ask someone who has been through it. Sorry about the confusing post I'm on the iPhone app and still getting use to it

I had to get my first band replaced after losing more than a hundred pounds. I was not required to go on liquids before the replacement surgery.

Good luck!

I never went through the liver shrinkage routine and if you've lost weight you may not have to either. I think patients who have gained back much of their weight might have to follow the pre-op diet if that's the doctors usual routine?

Mine was done urgently so no prep...hopefully your diet has been better with the band and your liver isn't as fatty as it used to be but yup,it's going to vary from doc to doc.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
