Celery Is A No-No, But ......

Recommended Posts

I know celery and asparagus are not allowed, however, is it ok to eat tuna or chicken salad with diced celery and/or onions? How about asparagus tips? Thanks

Hello Mis73 - I've been told and read that celery and asparagus are not

"band friendly" because they're stringy & fibrous -supposedly don't go down well. But it's good to know you can manage both because they're foods I'd miss. Eventually I'll try them and chew very well. Thanks!

Ohhh that makes sense. When I had both they were cooked, so I'm sure that made it easier to swallow. I did take really small bites, too. Especially with the celery because that just felt tougher to me.

When you do try it, be sure it's cooked so it's soft, it'll make it easier.

Oh btw, I eat raw chopped up celery and onion in my tuna salad all the time. I've never had a problem with either.

I agree with above comments. In the support group at my hospital, this was brought up. It wasn't a "no-no" persay but many said they had difficulty digesting it. I would suggest trying it in a small dose and see how it works for you. I would hate to give up asparagus!

I don't have problems with either.

Heck, yogurt can some times cause problems.

It is all an individual thing.

Also, both can be pealed, that would help a lot.

I'm not a big asparagus or celery eater but I have had it chopped in chicken and seafood salads with no problem. The food I wonder about is sweet potatoes. I was told they were a no no because of the Fiber. Anyone know about that?

Celery is fine. It is the oranges I have problems with.

That is the big One that I have problems with.

Carbonation is fine also. Just have to drink it slow. I have a can of diet mt dew as I don't drink coffee

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
