Why Would't The Band Work?

Recommended Posts

How do you know when you hit your "Sweet spot or Green Zone"? I am in my 5th month post op. I have had fills and 2 unfills. And refilled. Disappointed with my WLS group- especially nutritionist. I keep asking for menus or food ideas. No info given. And one nurse fussed at me for fills and unfills. Said I was eating too much ; that was my issue. Me; personally feel like I am not eating enough. Very discouraged. Glad I have lost 45 lbs. But last visit gained 6 when band was unfilled.Frustrated in the morning not being able to eat. So I drink too much milk. I stumble through my day guessing what to eat. So I have returned to this website for guidance. I have my next appointment on May 24. Not looking forward to it. I don't journal. (I know no excuses) But I could tell them what I eat. I eat the same things over and over. Getting in a bad habit of drinking ice cream shakes because of too tight symptoms. I cook for my family things I can't eat. I don't know what I am doing. Was exercising; got depressed over the fill/unfill deals. ANY ADVICE WELCOME.

Most would advise you follow a lower carb/fat diet. I would also say you should track your food/calories for a week or so just to see where you're at.

You should totally log your food so you know how many calories, and grams of Protein and fat youre taking in. That way you can know what NOT to do (as far as calorie level, etc) if you're gaining weight.

Stay away from the sliders (milk shakes, etc) unless its a low calorie Protein shake.

My doctor advised me to stay around 1000 cals a day, but I eat between 1100 and 1250 each day and Im loosing. But I workout 3x a week also.

My sample menu:

Breakfast - light yogurt or Protein Shake, sometimes both

snack - if I only had yogurt for Breakfast, then I do some Protein shake

lunch - Soup and salad lunch (1 cup each), or chicken salad (.75 cup) or half a cheeseburger, sugar free pudding

Mid Day Snack - veggie chips, banana, or some other fruit

dinner - 1.5 cup chicken pot pie, or some low calorie Pasta dish 1.5 cup (e.g. seafood salad, Pasta and marinara sauce with melted cheese, etc)

Dessert - low calorie popcicle, or low calorie frozen yogurt bar, or 1/3 cup ice cream

I'm 6 years out....I have lots of opinions on the band. I, personally couldn't reach the green area with fills after 2 years out. DON'T eat whatever you want. Eat what the dr tells you to eat. EXERCISE!!!! I lost 75 lbs in the first 9 months, but gained 50 back because I stopped eating the right foods and started eating whatever I wanted! I lost the 50 plus 25 more when I got back on track. I had problems with the band being too tight during my TOM and pain when I ate any meat or veggies. I had my band removed and went to sleeve 1 month ago. Completely different! The band can work if you are disciplined, track your food, EXERCISE, stay on top of your fills (you may need lots for many years to come!) and work the tool you have been given! Congrats on the surgery!!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
