Hey February 2010 Bandsters!

Recommended Posts

Yeah I am banded!!!! I feel great, little to no pain! I have been walking and have had a couple of sips of Water. Still hard for me to believe that I had surgery earlier today. Cottonmouth just sucks:angry:

Sorry about the dry mouth, but glad to hear everything went well. Glad you are comfortable.

I did it I am officially banded!!!!! Been home for about 3 hours, sitting up in bed took a snooze... Not too much pain.... mostly gassy. Port site is sore only when i move around... went for a walk after my nap and will be going for another shortly. One issue though.... I took some pain meds and then not 15 minutes later threw them up:eek:... I hope I can take regular tylenol if need be but so far the worst pain is the gas and thats not even too bad. Been sipping Water slowly... wondering if i should try to eat some pudding or jello... may a posicle? Any one have any thought or what did you eat for you first post op meal? Hope my fellow surgery day buddies are doing well!!!!

Hey All! I am scheduled for surgery 2/26/10!

Hoping all goes well. Went for medical clearance from my Dr. and my white blood cell count was up, which means that they were trying to fight some kind of infection, but I'm not sick, no UTI (which is common when they WBC's are up) and don't feel like I am coming down with anything (knock on wood). So Dr. gave me some antibiotics to knock it out of me and will take blood on Tuesday and then Wed. is decision day. Good lord I am more nervous about them telling me I wil have to postpone than I am about the surgery I think! So keep you fingers crossed for me!

And can I just add that this liver reduction diet is killing me? haha... Anyway! Good to meet everyone and "band" together. Man, I am corny sometimes.:confused:

Glad it went well Erin. My first meal was dinner in the hospital--they made me stay the night--my tray had a cup of Decaf tea, a sf Jello and a bowl of chicken stock. I drank a few sips of tea, ate about half the jello and had a few spoons of the stock. Next morning for Breakfast I was given 4oz of grape juice, decaf tea and a sf jello--again a few sips and a few bites. Later in the morning they brought by another sf jello which I ate a few bites of. Before I left they gave me lunch. Decaf tea, sf jello and beef stock. Just be sure to keep hydrated.

you and i are getting banded on the same day. good luck to you! how is your pre-op diet going?

The pre-op diet began really really hard. I was absolutely having fat attacks last week. (When I start having uncontrollable craving for all kinds of junk I call it a fat attack) but it is easier now. I lost 8lbs...(2 of them since Tuesday) since last Thurday and I felt good about it. My surgeon's nurse told me today that I should have done better than that. She discouraged me because I felt I was doing good. Especially through Valentine's weekend, which included eating out and chocolate. I resisted. I only drank one shake that day but I had a salad with four oz of steak. It was hard because my family members were ordering all kind of stuff. How is your pre-op going?

I just need to finish filling meds and getting some more 'supplies' for the first 2 weeks post op. Good luck for the rest of us in Feb to be banded.

I love it! A fat attack!! I'll have to remember that one! Hope everything's still going well...don't let anyone discourage you, even 1 pound lost is a step toward your goal!! But the pre-op diet is important to shrink your liver. Your date could get pushed back if you don't lose enough, or worse, you could wake up in recovery with no band because your surgeon couldn't get around a fatty liver. That's what I was told, and that's what helped me stay motivated to stay true to the pre-op diet. I've heard that if you cheat, you should make it fish. Good luck with your upcoming surgery! Prayers for health, happiness, and success with your band!!!

For some reason my doctor does not require a pre-op diet but I have started my own pre-op diet myself. I have a shake for breakfast and another for lunch and either tuna or chicken for dinner. I have eaten about 8 boxes of sf Jello in the last 5 days! I have also cut out all cabonated sodas and it hasnt been all that bad. Good luck to all that have to do all liquid for a couple of weeks, it is worth it though. I am finally out of the "Last Supper" frame of mind and the liquids through out the day are really not that bad. Good Luck everyone! I will let ya know how it went Wednesday afternoon I hope

my pre-op diet is going well. booooring but the results are good. according to my scale, ive lost 14 pounds. according to my doctors scale, ive lost between 5 and 7. whatever. their scale isnt calibrated right and they dont take off weight for clothing.

i havent had any solids. just Protein Shakes made with light soymilk, broth and thats about it actually. the hunger was awful the first 2 days but now im not even hungry anymore.

im lucky i guess. i dont live near family so im not out at restaurants. a salads not a bad choice tho, good job!

keep it up! we will be banded in no time!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
