Hey February 2010 Bandsters!

Hey WickedRedHead -

I hate that "What am I forgetting feeling!" If you have a robe and slippers I'd bring those, too. The robe helped me feel more covered in the hospital and the slippers were great - I was a same day case and left wearing them. So, if not slippers you might want some shoes you don't need to tie or bend to get into.

Good luck!

Yesterday I checked in the hospital at 5:30am and didn't get called back until 10:30am. I waited in the back until 12:00pm, but finally I was in surgery and wow I can't believe I did it! I was allowed to leave the hospital yesterday if I was feeling good so I ended up getting home at 8:30pm. What a long day! My hubby was grumpy through all the waiting so early in the day I sent him to my moms for a nap, he was alot happier when he came back. I felt really well yesterday, I was able to burp if I walked around so I did lots of walking. Since I am home now I had to wake myself up every three hours for a walk and drink and pee, dr.s orders. Today I am sore, like I have been in a car accident, everything hurts, achey pain. The soreness in my chest feels alot like plurasy and it is hard to remember to take deep breaths so my hubby keeps reminding me. But seriously this is not bad at all, I thought it would be alot worse. The meds help, i.e. my rambling, and walking makes me feel better. To all you who are about to go into surgery: Be Nice to the anesthesiologist he/she is very important and they can make things alot easier. Good Luck everyone!

Hello there I'm having mine 2/19 I'm so ready. The one thing that I'm worried about is gas I have always had problems with it after surgerys I will take your advice walk, walk, walk. I have to be there at 6:00am I hope I don't have to wait that long. Glad your doing ok other than being sore, I will keep in touch in case I need some advice

I will be getting the lapband next Tuesday. So excited. Been waiting for this for over two years. I live in CArrollton Texas. My surgeon will be Dr Hamn at Plano presbyterian. My insurance will be paying a portion of the surgery and I will be paying the other portion. Currently I weigh about 215 pounds. I would love to weigh about 150 pounds. Looking forward to this new journey!

Hellooooo to all of the FABULOUS and Funky Feb Bandits!!!! Hope everyone is doing well!!!

I am going in for surgery in about 48 hours... I feel like I am forgetting something... I hate that feeling.

I went shopping yesterday and stocked up on SF/FF pudding Jello posicles, I am going to be making some home made chicken stock tonight. I have liquid tylenol, gas x chewables and tums ultra, chewable vitamins, comfy clothes are going in the wash tonight... I have a heating pad and will be getting ice tonight or tomorrow.... any other last minute things I should be picking up?

I am in a state of "zen chaos" LOL! I am calm but I know I have ALOT to do between tonight and thursday morning... I sprained my foot last week so I got next to NOTHING done this weekend ugh the timing makes me cringe... Any way any suggestions or replies would be helpful! Can't wait to see you all on "The Other Side"!!!!

much <3

Erin

PS... These forums are great!! You guys have all been giving me sooo much support and strength and you don't even realize it, so, I just wanted to say thanks!!!!

Hey All!!!!

Well I am set to be banded in 9 short days on 02/25. I am set to start my Pe-OP diet tomorrow. It consists of 5 EAS Carb Control shakes and a low fat/carb 360 cal dinner (chicken and veggies). I took my wife out for our last dinner out. We plan to stay away from restaurants for along while. I am nervous/anxious/excited all in one. More feelings than I new was possible at the same time.

#4. Insurance or self pay? Self Pay

#7. What was your deciding factor for having this surgery?

I have tried everything else

#7. Do you have the support of family and friends? Yes

#8. Concerns and questions? Any tips on the gas pain post-op?

I had my surgery yesterday - got to the hospital at 6:30am and was out at 12:45 Noon. Went shopping after that - felt fine except for the gas pain. Last night I didn't sleep too well, just because I couldn't sleep on my stomach like I usually do, but also had to pee frequently.

If the recovery continues like this - I could go back to work Friday - but will probably go ahead and take the day off.

Good luck everyone. Let me know if you have any tips on how to alleviate the gas pains besides GasX.

Tomrrow is my BIG DAY! I can hardly wait. I will be banded at 7:30 in morning by Dr. Kim in Carrollton. It all seems surreal. I hope I can sleep tonight, yeah right. I live about an hour and half from the hospital, so it will be a very early morning for us. Good luck to everyone being banded on the 18th!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
