December Delights 2009

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Today, I'd like to toot my own horn, if only for a moment. Two months ago I embarked on this crazy banded journey after years of yo-yo dieting. I've lost 42lbs as of today... just a few pounds away from saying goodbye to the 300's FOREVER  I've worked harder at disciplining myself and kicking temptation out of my life, especially since I have no real restriction yet. Tomorrow's my second fill by the way, so we'll see what edge that gives me. Have I worked out like a mad woman, not at all, but I have walked a ton and I'm actively living a less sedentary lifestyle. Today's also Ash Wednesday and as I was sitting in mass thinking about all the loved ones I've lost, it overwhelmed me. I can't help but feel the warmth of those angels walking w/me every step, telling me to believe in myself. Now it's definitely not everyday, that I am so thrilled or Enlightened, it can be tough. But, today was a good day and I'm humbled by these small victories.

Best to all on this journey!!

Lauren

Well, I've gained 5lbs this week. It is so frustrating that I have to wait 2 more weeks (4 total)before my second fill. I even called the Dr. and told them I was gaining and asked if I could get a fill sooner ....no luck.

I have 3cc's in my band. I hope they'll be a little less stingy next time.

Frustrated!!!!!

Ask for an aggressive fill. Tell them to fill er up!!!

Last week I only lost 0.4 pounds. But I didn't exercise at all. I was so frustrated by it that I swore I'd add back in my exercise and I have, four days in a row now. It will be interesting to see what the scales say on Monday.

Have you had any fills yet? I still think that I can get some more restriction, although I'm eating good, for the most part. I go Monday for my 3rd fill. I'm ready for it. I want to be one of those who gets full after eating 1/2 cup of food. I'm easily eating 1.5 cups of food, if not more, for most lunches and almost all dinners. Breakfast I stick to my yogurt and cheese stick.

We'll get there Michelle, one way or the other!

Well Tuesday I had my forth fill that's including the 3cc in my band the day of surgery. I didn't expect to get a fill. My appointment was to check my incision that the doctor fixed in my belly button last week. He add 1cc. I now have a total fill of 6.5cc..in a 14cc band. I know now why we need to eat slow and small. (sipping too) I feel like after my 3rd bite it still up in my throat (weird feeling). When I eat slower it really makes a difference. It's been 3 days now and I still feel fuller and still need to eat slower. I believe I am getting close to my sweet spot.

Did you mean that your band is half filled? or do you only have .5ccs in your band? That's great with the weight loss though! Congrats on the 11 lbs.:thumbup::w00t:

I was wondering the same as Illumination Lady. I would think the docs would let us decide what is best for us. After all, we are the ones going through this hell. Congrats on the weight loss too. Keep up the good work!

Thank you. Things finally seem to be moving!

I only have .5ccs. He said I have a smaller band, so they wouldn't put as much in anyway, but that seems like not so much. I can tell the band is there, I know before the fill, my stomach would actually growl every two hours and that's not happening. But, I can still eat a lot if I wanted to. In fact, a week after my fill I had 3 peices of Long John Silvers fish with no problem in less than 15 minutes. I didn't feel sick physically, just mentally because I know that was BAD! But, I just sat there and ate it without even thinking about it, so that's what I'm worried about...it could easily happen again.

BUT, even though my next appt isn't for another month, he did say if I start feeling hungry badly or am not losing anything I can drop in in 2 weeks for a fill. But that's a 3 1/2 drive and at least half the day, if not all, off from work, so I wish he could have just done it then. BUT (lots of BUTS) I am glad that I don't have the problems with getting stuck and such, so I guess I'll go with it and just stick to my scheduled feedings (like a baby, lol) Have to right!

I'm still maintaining which is sooo discouraging and yet I need to be happy I haven't gained.

Two NSV to report:

I am back in my size 18 jeans!

2 people today asked me if I was losing weight.

I really can't wait to go back to the doctor and get another fill.

Does anyone else have a super dry throat or feel like something is just sitting back there? I am still having this issue....it comes and goes

Just got my third fill. I lost another 3.4 lbs. They are very pleased with my progress. Hoping this fill gives me the proper restriction. My last one gave me some but hoping this one will do the trick!

Illumination:

Glad the 3rd fill is helping. I am still on fill 2. Only had restriction for a few days after the fill. Now I am back to NO restriction. I lost 11 pounds my first month. 2nd month I have lost no weight. I've given up soda, fast food, starchy foods but no weight loss. No gain but no loss.

I get my 3rd fill on 3/2 and I'm going to be aggressive about it. As a self pay I start paying for fills in April so I'm setting up my 4th fill for the end of March.

We've had tons of snow so my walking has been reduced but I'm trying to make up for it on the treadmill.

Keep me posted on your progress!

You're lucky your doc. lets you decide when to get the next fill. I was banded 2 days before you and only have one fill. I have to wait a month in between each fill. Not sure of the reasoning behind that but good luck to you on March 2nd. I know as well that it's frustrating not losing.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
