Problems with taking vitamins?

Recommended Posts

I was banded last monday 10/26 and was crushing my Vitamins and taking them, but was terribly disgusted by the taste of them. It felt almost like I was swallowing acid. So this morning I cut them up and took them, but I am getting the same feeling. I don't know if this is something normal with the band, because I am still getting used to it or what. I take a Multi-Vitamin, Vitamin D, and calcium citrate. Does anyone have the same problem?

I take Bariatric Advantage Vitamins that are berry flavored chewable. They were recommended by my doctor and I buy them from the hospital pharmacy where I had my surgery. They are a complete multi Vitamin. You probably could go online to buy them. They are very good.

My mother uses a chewable Vitamin that isn't the same kind but she says they are just fine.

I take adult Centrum (or drug store brand) chewable multi vitamin/multi mineral. There are other chewables on the market, and some people even take children's chewables.

I take a liquid multi Vitamin I purchased at Vitamin Shoppe and it doesn't taste bad either.

It might take you trying a few before you find one that agrees with you, but you will find one-there are TONS out there!

Good luck!

I just use the CVS-brand childrens chewable vitamins. I usually take 3 (but I think you could probably take 2). They are actually really yummy, and I look forward to them (kind of like a little sweet treat before bed lol).

I know that there is a liquid Multi-Vitamin available, but I still have to take the Vitamin D, and the Calcuim Citrate. I think it just may take some time, as the swelling goes down, hopefully it will become easier. Thanks all!!!

I take a liquid vit D (in the winter) from the Vitamin Shoppe. You just add one drop to food or liquid for 1,000 IU / 250% RDA. I've taken liquid Calcium, but they also come in chewables.< /p>

I've been taking Viactiv(?Spelling) chocolate chews. They aren't bad, but not sure this is the best thing to take.

According to nutrionists the Viactiv chewable multi-Vitamin is incomplete. It is missing both Iron and B Vitamins which are essential for a wls patient. I used to take them - I purchased the Bariatric Advantage chewables (berry flavor) and they taste like a chalky sweet tart. I hate sweet tarts, so I despise them. I am now tossing them in the Magic bullet with my Protein shake and the problem is solved. Whatever chewable you decide to use, try to mask it in food (blended or smashed).

I bought my Multi-Vitamin, my calcium citrate (preferred over Calcium carbonate) and my omega-3 chewables (taste like a berry starburst) from bariatriceating.com. Their prices were the best that I found online. I was taking the viactive calcium chews, but they are the carbonate form so I recently purchased the chewable Lemon pound cake calcium squares and they are very tasty. Be sure to check calories on these chewy, tasty supplements. I think they are worth it, but they do need to be accounted for.

Good luck!

I was banded last week (10/29/09) and the bitterness of crushed meds makes me gag. So I'm really happy to take Tums 750 twice a day (for calcium) and my Flintstones chewable Vitamin twice a day. Both were recommended by my surgeon.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
