Recommended Posts

Well, I'm off to the hospital! Boy, am I thirsty and my surgery isn't until 12 noon. But they will start the IV at around 10:30. I'm starting to get a headache. But I'm keeping my trusty chapstick with me at all times...lol. Wish me luck and I'll post as soon as I can!!!

That is so weird. The doctors office and the seminar both said that the diet was a two week clear liquid diet. (is that what you're doing too?) He is scarily strict. He made me cry last time I was in his office because I didn't lose the weight. I was not even pre op at the time. I have no doubt he would cancel the surgery, he can be pretty rough with his patients but everyone says HE'S THE BEST! I know right!!! I"m so glad he made you cry too. I mean not happy happy (LOL) but now I know he's not just a jerk to me. I was bawling when I left, everyone in the office was just staring at me. He has me so stressed out!!

I was so scared that I started the pre-op diet early and started eating 400-500 cal a day since just after Thanksgiving. I have lost 26 lbs since my nutritionist visit in October. I am still afraid because He told me to lose 30, and that was at six lbs less than when I saw the nutritionist. So basically i have about ten lbs to lose this week. Good for you!! I wish I would have started early. Had I known he was going to be like this. All the nutritionists and some of his staff were like "don't worry about it, you'll lose the wieght during pre-op diet. don't worry" Ok. Well, now Dr. is pissed at me. Ugh. I can't win. Oh then yesterday his staff calls me and says "you have really low Iron and you need to take this and that" and I was freaking out because they called me 3 weeks ago with that news and put me on iron and now they are calling me again because they forgot they told me originally?!?!?! OMG! Now I'm really worried that they are incompitant. Then while talking to the nurse I'm telling her my fears about how I"m not losing weight. And she says "how many shakes are you taking in" and I said 3. Your staff member told me last week to take 3 for 90 grams of Protein and no more than 1,000 a day. Well she says, "oh no, that's POST op". OMG! No wonder I"m not losing any wieght. I'm so frustrated with that office right now. But I"m in it, I haven't cheated nothing. I also don't do broth or Tomato juice, just shakes. That's it. So now I'm down to 2 shakes and Water. I need to lose 10 more also...by monday. Wish me luck. ;-)

Stay away from broth and tomato juice if you aren't losing fast enough because those have so much sodium! They make you retain water on your lady time even more. Also I have only been doing 2 shakes a day. They said up to three, but if you don't need it leave it out!

I am so happy you are going through this with the same doc as me! i am very interested in your progress.

I'm excited to watch your progress also. Are you going to the meetings? I know Dr. Oh has our best interest, he really does care about our health he just seriously lacks in beside manners. We can get through this!!!:)

I'm in surgery tomorrow morning, very exciting! I'm wondering if anyone bought things to do if you stayed overnight? Were you too drugged up to do anything? Would bringing a laptop and DVDs be a good thing? I don't know if I'll be up for reading, but let me know if you were okay. Thanks!

ae09-

for the pureed food time I have a secret weapon - my mom

she is coming out for a week after surgery and I'm having her make some things for me-

1. boiled potates with boiled cauliflower and i laughing cow triangle throw it in the blender with a dash of milk its like mashed potatoes with a lil more -

2. cabbage Soup - sort of ....boiled cabbage, beef broth and grilled onion all run thru the blender with salt and pepper

3. veggie medley - got green giant freezer bag - she'll make it up and blender all of it

everything will be stored in the freezer in these 1/2 cup glad bowls until I can have it :-)

OMG! Those are great ideas! I'm making mental notes and emailing this to myself!

I got pretty bored so I was glad I had my cellphone. I was able to surf the web and chat with friends over AIM. I would recommend bringing the computer. I was in and out of sleep so I wouldn't have been able to watch a whole movie.

Ya know... if my insurance would approve it 2x, I'd give it a go and be that guinea pig! hahahaha I'm being banded on 12/28.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
