Just making sure this is 'normal'

Recommended Posts

I was just banded Thursday (yay!) and am now home. For the most part I feel pretty good. However, I have this odd feeling in my chest between my boobs. I'm assuming this is from the band/swelling? Does that sound right? Also, when I drink (still on liquids) I have a slightly uncomfortable feeling and then have the urge to burp, which rarely comes to fruition (much to my dismay, I think I'd feel much better If I could burp or toot). I'm obsessive and paranoid so I just want to see what ya'll think (plus it's Saturday so I can't exactly call my surgeon as this isn't an emergency). Thanks!

It's normal. And that's where your feeling of fullness will be as you learn to react to eating with a band. Remember that the stomach sits up higher than most of us realize!

I have never been able to burp very well and certainly can't "make" myself do it...I sure wish I could!:)

Since my surgery, nearly 2 months ago, I have wished I had control over burping. Mine sometimes start and then end with just sort of a "jump" of my diaphram...sorta like the "hic" without the "up".....or I will feel a burp coming up my esophagus and it just stops before it comes out!

I am really happy when one comes all the way out and I really get some relief!

I have found some relief of gas formation by taking Gas-X extra strength liquid gels. Helps with the gas formation in your intestines also!! :(

Good luck!

I had the exact same feeling for awhile after surgery and drinking fluids... It went away so don't panic. I kept thinking it was my heart!

Burping is the same problem... three months out and it is still hard sometimes.

I have noticed if I stand up real straight, put my shoulders back and tilt my head back, sometimes that helps get a burp out... Not everytime but sometimes.

Good Luck to you!

It's very normal. Probably you're a bit swollen still from the surgery. (not everyone is! we really are all different!) You've been reconfigured internally, the ability to burp will come back but it will take a while. Right now try to minimize any swallowed air (don't use straws now)

The uncomfortable feeling should diminish and vanish over the next few days. Just take it easy on yourself!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
