Recommended Posts

I'm scheduled for Nov 6th. I just got all me pre-op testing done and I have the pre-op visit on 10/26. Now I just need to figure out what my out-of-pocket cost will be.

I commend everybody that has already started to loose weight. I can't get started. Every day I think about foods I'm going to give up after surgery and I just want to make sure I get in everything before I start the pre operative diet. Anybody else have there feelings.

Thrilled to see November bandsters. Scheduled surgery date is Nov 4th. Up right now and can't sleep. Surgery is 2 weeks away. Very excited and scared too. Thinking about pre op diet any suggestions to make it simple and easy to stick to?

I am spaceing out my 1000 cal with things on the list, making sure I have something more filling 3 times a day and filling in with the lo cal stuff.... seems to be easy. I am allowed to have yogurt, cottage cheese and pudding which totally surpised me. so no more than 3 servings a day of those items, so I use those as my bulkier using 2 and 1 Isopure shake as another that is filling.

Hi to all the November Bandsters!

I will be getting banded on November 17th, one day after my 40th B-day. I figured it is my way of starting the second half of my life on a positive note.

My 2 week pre-op diet consists of 2 Protein shakes and 2 healthy meals a day... doesn't sound to bad. I have decided to start it on November 1st, just to jump start my weight loss journey.

I would like to wish everyone good luck to your successful LAP-BAND®® Journey!

We are band mates haha... I just found out that my surgery is on the 17th also. Yay to all of us Novembers! My pre op diet is similar. Two weeks before surgery I have a 2 Protein shake dealio with 1200 cal total everyday. I want to start a little early too just to get a jump start and be on the safe side!!!:seeya: YESSSS to all of us for coming this far!!!

My name is Jessica I am 28 years old and I am scheduled to be banded on Nov 10th. I have a concern, I spoke witht the nurse today that sceduled my pre-op appointment for nov 5th.. which is just 5 days before surgery. I asked if I needed to go on a pre-op diet before I met with him and she said no. She said that the docter would give me a diet to follow when i met with him (i guess i am just supposed to follow it for 5 days). Is this normal.

We have the same surgery date!

to answer your question- every surgeon is different with the pre op diet. some 3 days, some are 1 week some are 2 weeks. I'm going to be on it for 2 weeks. *Screams* I'm not sure why they all varies!

I have my surgery set for Nov. 18. I'm beginning to worry about the pre operative diet. I can have apple, grape and cranberry juices, Decaf coffee, tea, and sugar free Jello. Also, I can have one Protein shake a day. I'm thinking I'm going to be crazy hungry. I only have to be on it for 4 days. I've seen some people on it for 2 weeks. What did y'all do to cope? Any suggestions for diversions?

Lucky u! I have to be on it for 2 weeks. I'm scared shitless about this as well!

Hello fellow "soon-to-be" bandsters! My surgery date is Nov. 10th and I have been totally obsessed with research. It's hard to concentrate on other things when all I can think about is the surgery. So excited and optimistic.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
