RE: vomitting

Recommended Posts

I need to know if anyone else here has been unable to vomit food or stomach contents since having their band put on. I have Meniere's Disease, which causes me to be very dizzy and sick. I cannot throw up anymore when this is happening. I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT PBING. I am talking about being sick and nauseous, but not being able to throw up. Nothing comes back up through my band - no food what so ever. I could've eaten within the hour and then feel sick, but will only be able to go through the wretching and the only phlegm comes back up. No food can come back up through my band. Is this anyone else's experience?

I have not yet been nauseous, but you should know (if you don't already) that vomiting is very bad for the band. If it's bad enough it can lead to slippage. Did your doctor know about your Meniere's before you were banded? I would talk to him about it even now. He may want to prescribe an anti-emetic.

i have 'vomited' NOT PB'd since banding. Once. i was not restricted and stuff did come up, not alot and not fun. it happened because i was brushing my teeth and then my tongue, gagged, swallowed a tiny bit of toothpaste and that's all it took.

like i said some did come up (nothing compared to how much was in there) but that is without restriction. it suprised me that i could eat as ch as i could but when i vomited only a tiny bit came out.

i have since quit brushing my tongue. i have always been sensitive to swallowing toothpaste when gagging from brushing my tongue- then vomiting. now i just use mouthwash. at least that way no heaving!

i agree that you MUST discuss this with your dr.

Can this be dangerous...like say... if you have the flu or food poisoning?

If the body is trying to reject what is in the stomach and can not pass through the band , then does this get stuck going back up ?

Since hearing how bad vomiting is to the band and possible slippage.... I have been scared to death to get the flu and since the flu season is coming. I have thought of getting the flu shot but have also heard many bad things about the shot also.

Soooo I really don't know which way to go with this.

i specifically asked my surgeon about that pre-band and he said if you are restricted and get sick (truly vomit) to call him immediatly (his office has answering service to reach him) leave a desctriptive message and they will either call you insomething to stop the vomiting, or if it is non-stop heaving got to the hospital and have fill removed! i will be going to the hosiptal he is at even though it is 1 hour away because i want him judging if the fill needs to come out not an er dr who may not know that much about the band or how to remove the fill.

Hey you guys, my problem doesn't stem from being restricted, I don't have a good fill. I have had 2 fills, but have not yet hit the sweet spot. So my not being able to vomit stomach contents isn't because I am too tight. I do have a call into my surgeon, but they told me that he won't be back until Monday.

Thanks anyways, Barb

hey barb!

if you look at the band it is very small so even if you are not rectricted the contents of you stomach would have to pass back through that small opening. i had a full stomache when i vomited and NO restriction. i'm talking like being able to eat a 6 inch sub every bite with no drinking- the only thing that came up was about 1/4 - 1/2 a cup of food. please post to us what your surgeon says and in the mean time i hope you can stay unnauseated! is that a word?

I have Meniere's too... just checking to see how it affects it. Because of the lessened intake and more focused nutritional value, do you find your symptoms lessened?

Bless your heart! My husband has Meniere's. I had never heard of it until his diagnosis and now am surprised by how many people have it. He takes a diruetic (sp?) each morning and carries valium with him at all times. If symptoms hit, he is supposed to lie down, look at something not moving and take the valium. ( guess not in that order. :)LOL)

He tries to keep salt intake low in his diet-that's supposed to help also. Good luck to you!!!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
