September 2009 Band Date

Sorry if this thread has already been started but I looked around a bit and couldn’t find one. I think that those of us who are scheduled for September need a place to support each other, help pass the time, and not spam up the boards with a thousand approved threads:tongue2:!!! I am so excited to being this journey. So, how about it? Any lost September banders out there?:):)

i am on the last few days of my 2 week liquid diet, yea!!! my last pre-op visit with my surgeon is tomorrow, and surgery on Tuesday, Sept.1 i am sooo excited! My Surgeon, Dr. Erbella, asked me "what are you going to do when you are skinny?" i said i dont know. i have never been skinny!

Not a true September bander but close......surgery is scheduled for Aug 31!! Last few days of liquid diet.....until after being banded of course! It's hard but gonna be worth it!

Hey all...and special greets to our birthday girl!

I just got back from my pre-op appointment. I spent about 1/2 an hour with my surgeon and his PA (who does his fills) an hour with the dietitian and 2 hours doing general pre-op testing and running around. It took about an hour longer than I expected and I still have to go to get my blood drawn tomorrow.

It made it all very real today. According to their scales I had lost 20.1 pounds since my visit and he was pleased with that. He told me not to lose my mind and to realize that now I had a liquid diet and needed to stay on it. He did say I should go have a regular lunch...so I did...so..from here on out..I am a protein shake drinking and V-8 soup eating girl!

I have a list of foods that I can eat week 1 and 2. They are both clear and full liquids. The dietitian said we could have either, but that we had to have 4-6 ounces of liquid every hour. I can't have my V-8 soups until week 3 post-op because she considers them to be pureed foods. I am off to buy sugar free puddings tonight since she said I could have those.

I do have to stay overnight. My surgeon doesn't like to take any chances after putting obese patients under anesthesia...so that's the way it is. I do have a private room so I should be okay. He doesn't put any fluid in when he puts it in. He follows the standard practice of filling 6 weeks post surgery. He did say that when I have my 2 week checkup that he will release me to go back to the gym if all is well.

I am as ready as I can be...and surprisingly getting less nervous...only 5 days to go..

Happy Birthday Amanda !!

Thanks alot!

Well the scale finally moved this morning. I am down another 2 lbs. I also did an hour of cardio at Gold's gym. That was a great workout but I can't wait til I am able to lift strength train as well a few weeks after surgery. I have only had protein drinks today and so far so good, before I was doing shakes and soups but I thought I would try the protein shakes only today. Well Happy Thursday to everyone and thank you for all the birthday wishes. I am starting out my thirties with a new and healthier me. Yeah! 5 more days!:blushing:

Okay ladies' date=' we're almost there.. Good Luck to Us All !![/size']

Today, I went on u tube and seen some lap band failures.. I must say they got me a little nervous.. But, I figured I should see them and get a different perspective.. I did notice a several similarities, it seemed that after throwing up they did not return to two days of all liquids. That is what my doctor recommends.. After that it seemed that things went down hill, obstructions, slippage, and more. So, lets ask a lot of questions and be prepared.. Lots of Love and Prayers to All

I noticed we are the same age and having surgery a week apart. I am having my Band on Sept. 15th. It would be nice to keep in touch with someone my age in noting our progress.

"what are you going to do when you are skinny?" i said i dont know. i have never been skinny!

Amen to that!!

My surgery date is Sept. 8th also!! I have been on a 1200 calorie diet for the last 2 weeks and have lost 10 lbs!! I start the dreaded liquid diet tomorrow. I get 5 shakes and 1 meal bar a day. The center I am going through uses OPTIFAST shakes and bars. I've heard they are not the most tastey but I did try them and they are doable. Good luck and keep us posted

I am on the Optifast now. The Vanilla and Chocolate are not that bad. I really like the Vanilla. They both leave a little bit of an after taste.

I started out slow with losing but now I am averaging about 2 lbs a day for the last few days. I have my surgery in a week and I can't wait.

Happy Friday everyone

Hi everyone! I am being banded in FL on September 23!! I am so excited to be sharing this journey with all of you! I have read this thread from page one!

I am 35 years old and over 300lbs. Time to take this insanity into my own hands and make it work for good this time!! I am so ready!!

I will be starting my preop diet soon although my Dr. doesn't MAKE you do one...he strongly recommends one.

YAY for all of us!!!

Robyn

Hi all & welcome new posters! Today is my last day of real food for a long time. Tomorrow I start my 3 days of clear liquid and I get my band on Tues. 9/1. I know there are a few of us Sept. 1 bandsters.

Anyway, I emailed the nutritionist asking if I could do the clear Isopure drinks, and she said nope, just broth, crystal light, sugar free Ocean Spray, sf jello & popsicles. That is it. No coffee. No straining soups, just plain broth. NO protein at all! So I will be starving for sure, not to mention cranky from the caffeine detox. Am I the only one that has this sort of pre-op diet? At least it is only 3 days.

Good luck everyone & have a great weekend. :w00t:

I'm glad you started this, I have been looking for it too. I am 22, have one daughter and my big day is September 3! I am excited and not really nervous at all. I am so anxious to get it all over and done with that I haven't even thought of anything negative really. Good luck to you all!

Hi All, can I join? I just got the go ahead for surgery Wednesday! I hope I will have my surgery date by today and was told it will be the last week of September. Here is my bummer, I have a liquid diet for 3 weeks! I wonder why mine is so long and some of you guys only have a few days? Hmmmm....And can I ask a question? What am I doing wrong? I can not get that cute ticker copied onto my signature, what am I doing wrong?

Pookiemp - I am also in FL, in the tampa area, where are you? The pre op diet is a great start to losing weight. In a week I have already lost 11 lbs. But my diet is Doctor ordered. It gets you ready for just liquids post op and helps change your eating habits. Good luck with your up coming surgery... I know I am getty really excited and can't wait!!!

Colorado - I hope you don't get any caffine headaches from the withdrawl...those are the worst. Are you going to have a big feast tonight? I know I did my last day of real food. Since you only have to do a few days hopefully the hunger won't hit you too bad. It hit me about days 3 - 5. Where all I could do was drool, but by your day 3 you will be going in for surgery... WOOO HOOO let that take over your thoughts from food! :w00t:

Audreysmommy - welcome to the september bandsters, I know how excited you are, I go in the next day after you and I can't wait!!! Are you doing a pre op diet? Here's praying all goes well for you and your family!!!

Soexcited - yes feel free to join in. It is a great little support group we have going here for all of us being banded in September.

There are a few people that have a 3 week diet. Do you have a fatty liver at all? That might be why. It really is up to the surgeon what they would like you to do. Mine just requires 2 weeks.

There are some that were not required to do any pre op diet.

Most surgeons ask it to help, shrink the liver, get you in the mindset to lose, help give you a jump start in losing, get you ready for just liquids post op for the 2 to 4 weeks.

Be strong and I am sure you can do it. I did not think I would make it, but here I am on day 8 and still alive. I won't lie the first few days are killers. Well more like days 3-5. But it does get easier, but I still crave food and want to eat. I just keep myself motivated knowing this will be best in the long run for me.

Think of things to keep you motivated during those 3 weeks. Some make a book of insperation, others start making lists of what they want to buy, or set goals. Blogging may also help. It has for me and also keeps me in check since I know other people are reading my blog to see what I am all doing and how it is going.

Anything you can find to help you do what you need to do and when you feel yourself slipping what to do to pick yourself back up.

I will say I have cheated a little on my pre op diet. Had a slice of cheese here or there, eaten just the egg whites of a hard boiled egg, and just once had a few bites of sausage...think that was on day 5 when it was the worst for me.

I wish you the best of luck and success at your weight loss goals.

To everyone else happy friday and the 1st is just around the corner and then we start getting banded.

I would love to start a Yahoo group where we can post and write, email each other so we can all keep up to date on our weight loss journey. So us end of august through september bandsters can stick together and help support each other through this time. Does not have to be on Yahoo but a group somewhere that we get emails etc that we can help each other out.

Might have to look into that today. :w00t:

Happy Friday everyone....
