September 2009 Band Date

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. My surgery date is September 1. I've had my preop nutrition class and my visit to weigh in with my surgeon. I start my liquid diet next Wednesday - exactly the day that company comes to visit for 5 days! Uuugh! I think I will have 1 meal with them on the 1st day (sort of my last supper) and then begin my liquid diet. I hope someone visiting is a pleasant distraction to being on a liquid diet. Lots of luck to all of you!

Yeah, I start my pre-op on Wednesday and have visitors in town for 10 days. I really hope it's not going to be as hard as I think it's going to be! I'm getting banded 5 days after they go home and my in laws and brother in law come 2 days post-op and are here for 2 weeks!! I need strength!!!

We will have to be each other strength! Ihope we can all really help each other out because I am not really telling many people in my life and I have a feeling I will need the support :) I wish I had advice for those who are really struggling with preop diets but (especially since I was approved) I have been super motivated to keep it up lately. I cant wait to do this! Gah! Cant the 16th come quicker??? LOL

I am so glad to have found all of your September bandsters. I will be banded on Sept lst. I am so terrified. I have been reading all of these horror stories that people on this site have written and I seriously want to back out. Does anybody else feel this way? I'm afraid it wont work and I would have gone though all this for nothing. Or what if I have alot of complications and will still be on shake come Christmas. HELP

Hello,

I am also a 9/1/09 bander, and I am looking loking forward to the procedure but also nervous with this life changing event. But, please take the stories in stride- or rather people's complications as information to store in the back of your mind. I look at it as yes I am aware of issues after surgery, so it is better to know than not be informed. This is funny coming from me... but maintain a POSITIVE attitude... that is all we can do at the moment.. .. TOOOOO late to back out.. LOL..

and if you are on a shake at Christmas.. but healthy and still slimming down... COOOOOOL

take care

:)

LOL ya! Think of how thin you would be if you are still on the shake on Christmas :) JK I think that people who are having complications come on this board for support. Most people who the band is working for and are loving it have better things to do (like enjoying their awesome new bodies) than post on here for support. We will all just have to stick around and let people know about our successes  We can do this!

I started my pre-op eating plan after my first class, 10 July 2009. It was clear I shouldn't gain any weight from that time, even though I had no idea when surgery would be. I started keeping track of calories, keeping them below 1200, and finishing up foods in the freezer. Then I started the 3-stage food plan that my center has. They have a 3-stage plan to help you adjust to post-op eating. I have lost 15 pounds so far. For some reason, I have not had any problems with cravings, maybe because I have been keeping track of all foods and exercise, and following the plan exactly. I have a sippy cup, it sure is difficult to sip 64 oz of Water for the day! And I keep practicing chewing slowly.

I just wanted to say that we all can do this and we do not need to focus on the negative on this site and focus on our health and how much healthier we will be if we do this the right way. I think alot of people that do not suceed are the ones not doing exactly what they are suppose too because I have watched them on youtube and hear that they are not exercising and eating what they want to eat. I mean one girl ate like a whole pizza one night just to see how much she could eat with the band. The band is a tool and if we remember that and follow what we are told by the dr and nutritionist, we will succeed.

I can't believe it is only 15 days away! I think I am as ready as I can be..but it seemed so far off for so long...it doesn't quite sink in yet!

Is everyone else all stocked up and ready?

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
