Concerned with my hair loss, anyone else has this problem?

Emma -

You've done great too!! Sorry the last 6 weeks have been hard - it's frustrating not to see the scale move. Remember to keep looking at your measurements when the scale doesn't budge. Don't let the scale be your only definition of success.

Keep me updated!!

Barb, Thanks. Yes I've talked to my doctor about this. She had me done some blood test. The result came back fine. I have no thyroid or Iron level issue. She said that the hair loss is the reaction to the surger that the hair would grow back eventually. I've been taking around 1100 - 1200 calories per day and I eat a lot of Protein (6-7 Oz of protein) lunch and dinner. If I eat more, I think it is going to be even harder to lose weight though.

I am 6 months post op and have been losing hair for about 2 months now. I was told exactly what the PP posted about surgery and Hair loss. My Dr said it will thin for about 2-3 months then grow back fuller than it was before.

Don't worry, this is normal..my loss has slowed down in the last week!

Thanks for the info. I've been having hair loss for almost 2 months now. Hopefully it would stop soon just like what your doctor said.

I have read, and know from experience, that hair loss can be a result of hormonal changes (ie: on/off birth control pills, body changes post op).

7 months prior to surgery I stopped taking birth control pills. I had Hair loss for 5 months...very freaky! It had finally stopped, I had a couple months off...I'm now 3 months post op, and it's falling out again. My hair dresser had told me prior to surgery that she could see new growth...so, there is hope!

Strange part for me post op is that I have not lost a lot of weight (13 pounds) so it's not as if my weight loss is SHOCKING my system!! LOL

Hang in there...this too shall pass!

WOW, 5 months of hair loss sounds scary. Maybe it was the combination of missing birth control pill after the surgery and the surgery iteself that made me having hair loss too. Let's hope both of our hair loss stop soon. Thanks for the response.

Regardless of what is happening to your body, I was always told that losing weight results in Hair loss or thinning hair.< /p>

I am just under 4 months post-op and I have not noticed any difference in the amount of hair I lose. I have hypothyroidism and have always lost around 20-30 hair strands in the shower each morning. This is just an estimation since I don't actually count them. I hope all of you have had your TSH, T4 & T3 tested to rule out hypothyroidism.

I am at 3.5 months post op and started losing my hair about 3 weeks ago. I have heard several possible reasons such as Protein, Vitamin B, Iron, thyroid, and stress. I am hoping that one of these is my issue and it will grow back. I plan to go for blood work this week to make sure all functions are normal. Thanks for the insight into Biotin. I think I will get some today.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
