Bad Breakouts caused by steri strips

Recommended Posts

I was just banded on 6/19 and last night i had to go ahead and rip off the steri strips b/c it has caused very bad irritations on my tummy...now each incision site is an inflammtory rash.....and the residue of the strips (adhesiveness) is still stuck on on my skin i have been trying to rub them off as gentle as possible, but its hard b/c it just teases the itch that the rash has caused....im getting frustrated with all this crap....i have no restriction and my will power is about to bust...and these damn strips have screwed my belly all up....ahhhh sorry i just had to vent yall....Im gonna start medicating the rashes with cream and hopefully the inflammation will go down...not how i imagined things to be :rolleyes2:

Sounds like you are allergic or sensitive to adhesive. I have had some surgery after the band and have had a bad time with anything with adhesive. My surgeon used a glue instead of the strips and that worked really well for me.

You want to make sure the lotion you are using does not contain formaldehyde (I know I spelled that wrong!).

If you have to have the strips reapplied, ask them to use skin prep. It puts down a barrier between your skin and the adhesive.

Definitely an allergic reaction to adhesive. I ruptured my achilles tendon in my right leg in July 2007; got a terrible infection in the surgical site in November 2007 (almost lost my leg) .... and wound up totally unable to use anything with adhesive on it anywhere near that part of my leg. What I experienced sounds a lot like what you've just been through. An allergy treatment cream (I believe Benadryl makes one) should help. There are several products that remove the adhesive residue. Just ask your pharmacist.

I had the same reaction but only after I pulled off the steri-strips. I was about 2 weeks out and all 5 of my incisions got red around them and itched like crazy. I used caladryl around the incisions to help control the itch and it worked well. (Just be sure not to apply directly on your incisions if you use some). And no restriction is very common. You're in that bad stage between eating food again and your first fill. A lot of people will gain weight back in this period, but it will come back off. Stay committed. You're going to be so gald you did!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
