For those who miss their soda...

Recommended Posts

I've never been a big soda drinker, but I know some people are/were...

I love Dr. Brown's (it's a New York thing)... and every once in a blue moon I will take a sip or take a tiny little glass and let it go flat.

I used to LIVE on seltzer... loved the bubbles, and no calories or sugar... I don't really miss it, I just drink Water, which I always have...

BUT today, I couldn't resist buying these Soda Ice Pop things in the store, they were in CVS, they were like, you know, those little liquid ones in a plastic sleeve (which I take issue with -- food and drink should not touch plastic, especially hot foods, and these get frozen so who knows what that does, but plastic leaches chemicals... not for food) ANYWAY, there was a box of them in Jelly Belly flavors, but there was also a box with 7-Up, Dr. Pepper, Crush orange, and another one I can't remember... now they are sugary, so I will eat them over time, but I thought this would be a cool summer treat for those of you who miss soda...

yeah... I am banded 1 week and 3 days now... and I hope I do not forget this at some point, and order a soda!!! Or pick one out of the cooler at the checkout in the stores... and start drinking it without another thought!

So I am trying to train my mind and when I go to the store, I have a running commentary going in my mind... "no soda pop, m'kay? m'kay? m'kay?"

crackedpepper. I tried those yrs ago. They had a sugarfree variety and they were delc. I haven't found anymore, but it would sure hit the diet drink spot about now. I would love a diet drink, but won't risk the pain I have heard about from others.

airkuhl - the carbonation stretches the pouch, think about how if you shook the or can up, the container could not contain all the bubbles, so it can hurt, stretch (which is bad for you), and just a tiny bit fills you up

bmooney - i just went into it on another thread, about how sugar free stuff is really bad for you...

i'm telling you, what's most refreshing is a big glass of Water with lemon... better than any sports drink i've ever had

and also, coffee with ice and milk... so good!

good luck on quenching your thirst!

Gotcha, thanks. I'm not a soda fan so I didn't really drink much before banding and none afterwards. I do drink beer however and don't seem to have any problems with hurting or stretching, seems to go right through. I guess my leash is not as tight as some.

I also try to avoid artificial sweeteners as I try to avoid artificial foods in general when I can.

Also, we share a favorite drink, I'll take a glass of ice Water with a lemon wedge over pretty much anything.

airkuhl - gotta love Water w/ lemon

watch out, because as you get tighter, you might have a problem with beer... and you don't want to stretch your pouch, can be dangerous, slippage and all. if it doesn't bother you toooo much, you can let it get flat...

I asked my surgeon about the carbonation and stretching of the pouch and he said it is a misconception. He said the bubbles my bother your lower stomach and soda is empty calories but it does not bother the pouch.

Hmm, I usually just burp long before I feel any discomfort. Not sure how it could stretch unless you can't burp for some reason. Anyway, empty calories or artificial sweeteners are a good enough reason for me to avoid soda.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
