NO MORE Fat Lazy Slug For Me!

Recommended Posts

So I got to thinking today that I have gotten by with no exercise for 16 months now. I quit when I started having band problems and was losing a bit more than I wanted to.

Well, those days are over! ;o) I have two pounds I need to lose to stay within my permissible 5#'s that I allow myself. My jeans don't fit. Just 5# makes a difference of a size at this point. Ohhh, they fit.. but I almost have to lay on my bed to zip them up. Not acceptable!

Today I finally got to the treadmill and I thought it would be harder but it wasn't. I'll work up to running again instead of walking/running/walking/running. It was a piece of cake, not what I expected at all after being a lazy couch slug for 16 care free months!

One down side, I remember when I first started this WLJ. I could burn the same number of calories in 15 minutes that it takes in 48 minutes now. That sucks. (BMI/BMR having gone down.)

I'd put an exercise ticker in there but alas... no room! HAHAHA

I get really depressed if I don't go to the gym. I do it more for my mental health these days.

Normal exercise is so boring! I do like to walk, but it is already getting HOT here so I'd have to be sure to get out early.

Because it is HOT the pool is perfect right now. I don't have a huge, lap pool. I lovingly refer to it as my 'pond' but my 5-yr. old grandson is very excited to play in it. I've been using him as my exercise tool. I lift him, twirl him, jog up and down while carrying him. And I'm having fun! Woo Hoo :rolleyes2:

Hey Rosebud what side of town do you live on? I'm in Las Vegas too ... NW side ... and yes, it is getting hot here ... I thought we might actually have a spring this year, alas, it appears not ... unless you count the 2-3 weeks where it was in the 50-70s. It would be nice to have someone in town to buddy-up with for support if you're interested.

I need to talk to Jacqui to see how I can increase calories burned on my treadmill. I'm thinking of using 10# weights for my hands, with an incline, and a pretty good speed. Not sure how else I can do it.

I hate weight training, hate it with a passion but I don't mind my treadmill much at all. I really felt good yesterday and as Denise says, I've really noticed a difference in my mood with just one session. I feel good this morning, much better than the past few weeks.

That's great WASa ... I just noticed after all this time you went from a 22/24 to a 4??? How tall are you? The smallest I've ever gotten was a 10 and that was in my teens and everyone accused me of being bulimic or anorexic ... I can't even imagine a size 4!!!:rolleyes2:

For lack of a better place to put this....

I just invented something good.

A BLT no-bread sandwich. I used a huge Romaine lettuce leaf, filled with bacon and Tomato, and folded it over like a tortilla. It's very good!

I'm 5/5. Sometimes I wear a 6 depending on style/brand but usually a 4.

Dr. Aceves wants me to gain but I really don't want to. There is a certain regain (about 10%) before the end of the first five years and this way I'm covered. Even if I do regain I'm still good to go. Since it's not really difficult to maintain I'd like to keep things the way they are.

It's funny, all those months and months of asking... Dr. Aceves, am I done yet??? He'd say no, just a few more pounds. Just a few more. I can't count how many times he said that. Now he's suggesting I gain. HA!

NOT going to happen!

I'm 5'8" so if I can get to a 12 or even back to a 10 I'll be THRILLED. I'm not big boned, just tall, although I do have broad shoulders and big feet ... so does my sister and she's only 5'2-1/2" but have never had a weight problem -- she's too hyper and nervous all the time I think she burns it off -- that and she doesn't eat very much or very often .. I don't strive for her size (a 1 or a 3) ... however I do strive to get out of womens (or WIDE as my friend calls it) and into misses. Thank goodness I enjoy exercising. I don't generally have head hunger either ... I truly find eating to be a chore, an necessary evil so to speak, so I am hoping the sleeve will give me the Portion Control I need as I don't eat bad, just once I get started, I eat too much.

If it's not too personal, why do you have to go back and see Dr. Aceves so often? Does he require follow-up visits?

I don't have to go back anymore. When I was banded I was there all the darn time. Fills, unfills, try this drug, try that technique. I've been sleeved almost a year (6/3/08) and I've only been there once in the last year and that is when I went with a friend for her band fill. I did go with a friend for her plastic surgery but I didn't go to the hospital.

I'm going there the end of the month for my 3 month check up. ;o))) I just want to get a barium swallow to see how things are going.

Don't do the hand weights. There is evidence that they don't do much and they can increase your risk of injury. But adding incline, adding time and adding speed are all good things. You can also do hills, if your treadmill has that sort of programming.

Yeah, it has hills, valleys, the works. It is pre programmed for various types of incline.

If I add 20# of weights can't I calculate calories from 127# to 147#?? HAHA

Instead of hand weights, you could try a back pack, like you were going hikeing. That would increase your workout also.

Also for a better lack of place to put this, I have lost 13 lbs in just over 2 weeks. It's great now. I have no desire to eat. I can move to mushies soon but I am perfectly content with my Protein Shakes. It's WAY better than clear liquid. Besides, I have all this Protein Powder I bought I need to use up.

Hi Wasa,

You bring up an issue I've been wanting to ask for a while for suggestions. As I've mentioned, I had to move my sleeve date from June 28 to AUGUST 7. It seems so far away. I find myself wanting to pig out between now and then and eat everything I can because its the last time I'll be able to eat like a hog. I know this is probably not a good way to think. I should probably exercise and eat better and try to shed some pounds before my surgery. Anyone else go through this before your surgery?

Rose

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
