Help with Protein shakes

Recommended Posts

Okay so My surgery is schedulded for June 18th and I want to be prepared. I know that if i have to do something 3 times a day (protein shakes) then I need to be able to do more than just tolerate them. I have tried every possible combination, flavors, different brand..Cold, warm, with fruit, in juices, with llow carb icecream...etc etc..I cant stand them..Has anyone out there found a shake that they could do 3 times a day

Thanks

My doc prescribed/strongly suggested a certain brand. Quite honestly, I didn't "like" them (when I'm hungry I want food, not a fake-sweet thing) but I drank them. It was just for a short time and I wanted the goal, so I did what I needed to.

My favorite so far is vanilla Protein, milk, 2 ice cubes, 1/2 frozen banana. Drink it quick and it's sort of like a banana milk shake.< /p>

My doctor's office supplied me with Champion Nutrition brand Protein Shakes. They came in vanilla, chocolate, banana cream and strawberries. They taste fine but I don't like the texture if they're done in the blender because they get too frothy, so I mix them with a hand whisk and add crushed ice. The crushed ice actually gives me something to chew on - a little mental relief.

I have found that I need toast before I go to bed in order to sleep well, but that will have to change after the surgery. But it does get easier each day.

Good luck!

nectar Protein drinks (23g of protein)! You can order a bunch of samples to try and see which flavor you like. My dietitian had recommended an unflavored whey Protein from GNC and I had tried it long before my surgery. I couldn't stand the thing, I ganged the entire time and now just the smell of Protein powder makes me ill. I had panicked thinking I wouldn't be able to do the surgery because the protein was a must. I still can't stand the smell of the Protein Drinks but the taste of Crystal Sky from nectar is great (tastes very fruity). You can mix it with crystal lite and throw in some ice cubes.. Its great chilled.

I order it from enjoyhealth.com. You might find one flavor you like (there are a ton of flavors).

unjury chicken broth was also a good one. Again couldn't stand the smell, but it really does taste like chicken Soup broth (they also have an unflavored that was ok, along with strawberry sorbet).

Hope that helps!

Matrix 5.0 or 2.0 is pretty good. I bought vanilla and make smoothies with it using 1 banana and a hand full of either blueberries, strawberries or my favorite, rasberries. Mix in a little lowfat yogurt and ice and blend. Also, muscle milk tastes pretty good, I like the 100 calorie ones.

My nutritionist recommended Boost. I think they taste great. The chocolate is my favorite, tastes a LOT like a chocolate milk shake. It doesn't smell as strong as some others but I don't try to smell it either because it does have a vitamin-y smell to it.

I love the EAS AdvantEdge Carb Control Rich Dark chocolate. Walmart sells them for $4.97 for a 4 pack. Each has 17g Protein. They also come in strawberry Creme, French Vanilla, and Chocolate Fudge, but I like the Rich Dark Chocolate the best. They are best when they are chilled real cold, but don't freeze them.

My doc precribed Meditrim shakes.

Vanilla tastes GREAt with ice, & Crystal light sugar free powder.< /p>

Blend it up to a smooth great tasting smoothy!

Adding a bit of fruit such as berries..helps too:)

chocolate tastes great too..

My advice is Blend Blend Blend! Add ice, sugar free syrups etc ..Do whatever to get them down each day.

I found that I like Isopure Liquid Protein. It tastes similar to koolaid and is refreshing. It has 40 grams of Protein, 0 carbs, 160 calories, no sugar, and is only 160 calories. You can drink it the first day after surgery. The best place to get it is GNC or online.

I love the Designer whey in French Vanilla. It is the perfect base for any flavor 'smoothie' you crave. My whole family has them. I keep bags of frozen fruit in the freezer, and mix the Protein Powder, with skim milk and a packet of Splenda, and have a different flavor everyday. I also use flavored extracts (like almond or maple to change) it up as well. I keep the chocolate flavor on hand, when I am craving chocolate. Sometimes I throw in half of a banana, sometimes I add in some instant expresso powder for a mocha flavor...get creative. I have been at my goal weight for several months now, but I still keep my Magic Bullet on the counter and have a Protein Shake at least once a day. My husband and kids have once almost everyday as well because they taste soooo good!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
