Tight in the morning

Recommended Posts

Wasn't sure where to ask this question and I am sure it has been asked a few times before but....

Does anyone have an explanation as to why the band might be tighter in the morning? I have a very difficult time eating much before noon. I'm ok with it because I actually LIKE drinking a Protein Shake for Breakfast. However, by dinner time, the band seems to have loosened so much that there is no limit to how much I could eat. I wish I could reverse it cause I am and always have been a night time eater!

I have heard that it is tighter in the morning because your esophagus swells at night. But I don't know if that's true or not.

I was told it is because during the night you get dehydrated so your band is tight in morning - by lunch I can usually eat about 1/4th of what I used to but I am like you by dinner time sometimes I think if I didn't stop myself I could eat a whole plate of food. I just have a Protein Shake every morning - something light at lunch like tuna salad but at dinner time I am starving. I have to stop myself.

Oh I feel exactly the same way. If I do not have the tiniest of portions (like a tablespoon of eggs), a Protein Shake, yogurt or just hot tea - I get stuck. My problem is that I am STARVING in the morning - truly, physically famished. So, tired of getting stuck, I am sticking to Protein Shakes for breakfast (pun intended).

I am starving in the mornings too. But I have given up on trying to eat. Now I just drink a giant cup of coffee with cream. Not the best breakfast, but it's better than nothing.

I'm too tight in the morning too. I tested a few times because I'm hungry. I didn't get stuck, but two bites in, I knew better than to continue.

Now I either go with a carnation instant breakfast, or a yogurt smoothie. I can't handle Protein shakes anymore! One of those gets me through until 11 or 12. I can eat then, but I have to be very careful.

It gets better as the day goes on, but never loose enough to let me eat "anything."

My Surgeon told me not to eat breakfast if I'm not hungry- so I don't! My band stays nice and snug all day  I finally got good restriction and the weight is starting to drop off!

YAY!!!! Good-bye Bandster Hell!

Hi Stephanie

Thanks for writing back, yes I usually don't have much for breakfast sometimes a couple bites of something so I won't get too hungry at work..My weight has not moved very much lately. I am tight enough because I get sick alot so know that I am. Any suggestions on what to eat to get the weight going...down...I am open to any suggestions because I want more weight off. I was banded in 2006 so time to get skinny or smaller at any rate. Come on Banders help me out here...lol...thanks Donna

I just had my first fill and it was 3cc's and today is my first day off liquids and I tired eating some cottage cheese with fruit and could only eat a couple bites and it did feel tight and snug. I am sure I am not at the point where I have the best restriction but I am happy that this was posted cause I was going to get on here and ask the same question.

I'm with you guys. I am absolutely tighter in the morning and looser at night, and would totally kill for that to be reversed so that i was tighter at night when i am more of a grazer.

The other thing i've noticed is that the more i eat, the looser i become and the less i eat, the tighter i am. In other words, if i don't eat much all day, i stay tight, but if i start eating larger portions i can just eat more and more as the day goes on. Very frustrating at times.

I am the other way round, can eat a nice hearty Breakfast (although I don't have it until approx 3 hours after getting up and exercising) and often struggle to eat after 6pm.

I also find if I skip lunch then I can't manage anything else for the rest of the day. These bands are strange aren't they?

Sue

I'm with Sue. I have only had 1 fill and have 3 cc in my band, but dinner time is the meal I notice the most restriction. I could eat a larger breakfast and dinner if I allowed myself to, but by dinner time 3-4 ounces of meat and a little veggie is all I can handle. My band definitely tells me to stop more at that time of day. Weird!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
