Raleigh, NC : Just went to my first Lap Band information session.

Recommended Posts

Hey everybody from Raleigh, NC!

Well, so far I have just attended an information session with a sergeon here in Raleigh, Dr. Moran. Most of the information they went over I had already learned online but it was great to be in a room with other overweight people.

I have been overweight all of my life and never been successful losing weight. After a lot of research, talking to people who have gone through the procedure, and some soul searching I decided to start the process.

Right now I'm just waiting to hear back from the doctors office about insurance coverage and where to go from here.

Good luck to everyone here. I look forward to reading your posts and learning more about this life altering experience.

Hello. I'm from NC also. Call your insurance company and ask them to fax or send you the policy information on Bariatric surgery. I have BCBS and they sent me the information and I followed it to a t. I read it over and over and made sure that everything they required, I had done. Some insurance company require things that other insurance companies don't. I know your doctor will find out what your insurance company requires but I wanted to know for myself. I work in the medical field billing Medicare, Medicaid, and insurance. I know how busy I get and I just wanted to make sure my Doctors office didn't overlook anything that was required. It also gave me piece of mind that when everything was turned in for approval I knew it was there. I wish you the best of luck on your journey.

Hi Chad! I am in NC as well, down in Charlotte. I have not been banded yet...but have been approved and will be setting the date soon, prob sometime in June. I can understand where you are coming from, having been overweight all my life too. it's terribly exciting to think about the new chapter ahead and the journey it will be, but a little unnerving because I have no idea what a "normal, healthy" me will be like! I went to my seminar back in August 08, its taken awhile for my process because I was a smoker and my surgeon requires 90 days of strict nonsmoking before the initial appt. But the desire to get healthy made it super easy to quit cold turkey.

Nice to "meet" you and keep us posted on what you find out! Good luck!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
