hello I'm concerned too. I think I'll be ok and my surgery is schedule for the 18th of May in Monterrey. But my husband wants to come with me and I'm telling you he catches everything. I wish he wouldn't go cuz that's just one more thing for me to worry about. Him catching the swine flu. But I really think I'll be ok

I too have surgery scheduled on May 22nd with Ortiz.......... this is driving me crazy. I have already taken the time off (I'm self employed so to block out time is crucial!) and have finally made up my mind to have this surgery. I've been wanting it for years and now that I have the funds and the time, and the GUTS for that matter, this thing comes along!

I am going to wait a few more weeks, feel it out. Be sure that if anyone needs a mask, it's the proper kind. Dr. Oz was on The View the other day and said that ONLY surgical masks can truly filter the air propery.

I am actually thinking of asking my neighbor a nurse to get me some surgical masks.

Good luck to everyone out there!!!

I just dont think I can go right now. As badly as I want to, I cant justify putting my family at risk like that. I am thinking about it so much I had a dream about it last night. I have a toddler and I could never live with myself if I brought that home to him. Im so depressed because I was so excited and so ready to go. I feel like a teenager who's just been told she cant go to her prom or something. Im so crushed. But I cant let my selfish want for the surgery over cloud my motherly instincts for my children's safety. And even the President is asking people not to travel to MX if not completely necessary. Looks like Im going to cancel my surgery and not reschedule until this whole thing calms down. I guess Im not going to be a mayo bandito after all. Im so so sad. I know its just a set back, but my unreasonable side feels like its never going to be my turn.

Headin to Mexico, I believe you are doing the right thing. You can try to reschedule your surgery but mean while, stay on the Protein diet and continue to lose weight while you are waiting. Much rather see you have to do it that way then like you said, don't bring it back to your family and others. Good luck!

hello sassysara,

I've took off work too and I'm gonna give it a week or so also before rescheduling. I'm so bomb out about this flu. It just sucks!!!

I spoke with my friend who is a Dr. in the San Diego area today and she said she thought it was fine for me to still go to TJ for my surgery. The news is making a big deal of this flu, although the regular flu kills more people each year. The new strain is definitely cause for concern, but it seems to be blown out of proportion right now. There are already 8 confirmed cases in the Dallas area (where I'm from), which is more cases than in TJ. Lastly, Dr. Ortiz said that the OCC is self-contained and no sick people go in/out of there, unlike a regular hospital. I think that's a big plus.

As of today, I am not going to reschedule. I am going to bring tons of anti-bacterial hand sanitizer and face masks to wear at all times!

I am gonna wait till the 12th hour myself.

I heard the rumor that they are thinking of closing the borders for 5 days... so let's see where that takes us. That's Mexico is closing, not the US.

Let's keep our fingers crossed!

hello Hukna, Let us know when you get back and where are you going and who's doing ur surgery?

I came home from TJ Friday night. I'm 3000 miles there and 3000 back. Lots of planes, people etc. On Monday the 27th the first mask I saw was in TJ where a few locals wore them. I did put one on in the hospital as instructed for precaution but mainly staff wore them only. You are not out in the gerneral public shopping but it truly is overhyped. By Friday when i came home I never seen a mask anywhere. San Diego Airport is right there and not one to be seen by staff, travellers, families or the elderly. I was also at the airports in Pensilvania, St.Paul MN, Detroit and Syracuse NY and saw nothing of concern by staff or travellers wearing masks etc. It's making bigger news elsewhere is all I know. Myself and friend that came with me are fine. I was truly more concerned about the filthy airflow controllers overhead on the plane and the airline stewardess who coughed in her bare hand and then served a drink and did it agin with the other hand. I believe it was a tickle in her throat but you NEVER cough in your hand. She should know this OMG.

I was told that the original amount of deaths in Mexico originally 100+ ? ended up at 12. I believe they are assuming and not actually testing, then once tested find it's not that at all. Obviously if you have concerns you must do what feels right for you. This was just my experience this week at the MX border and TJ. Hope it helps.

Everything went perfect. I have been requested by my employer to have a swab done before returning to work now with all the hype though so maybe be prepared for that. There has been "0" cases in TJ but the media is the media. I understand so going to do that in the a.m. for them. They have to take precautions to cover their butts too. You would never know anything was going on all the way there or back. No one at border (staff or other) into USA from MX has masks nor the people selling coffee, papers and buritto's before you go throught e border..it's like nothing happened. When are you planning on going?

good luck to all of us heading down to TJ!!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
