Was anyone banded at a weight of 200lbs or less?

Recommended Posts

I am keeping my fingers crossed that I will be an <200 bandster sometime this Summer. I have to jump through all of the surgeon's hoops before he will submit to the ins. co. I am plugging away. One of the expectations is to lose 10% of my body weight, which is 21lbs for me. So far I have lost 7 -- maybe more, as I only weigh when I go for appointments. I started @ 217. My highest ever non-pregnant weight was 230.

I'm 4'11 and 205, and also had to go through thte 6 months... I believe my insurence approved me, all my paper work is being submitted tomorrow by the surgeon and my insurence gave me the referrals to see him.... I too had to do sleep studies (b/c my arthritis wasn't enough of a factor) and come to find out friday that my pre-op testing proved that I have increased hemoglobin levels so my surgery should be a breeze.... 4 days and counting!

Well today was preop day and tomorrow is my date! There were6 other people doing the preop visit at the office. All of them were at least 100 pounds heavier than me. It made me feel lucky but also a little self conscious. I hope no one thinks I am taking away an insurance approval from someone who needs it more than me. My insurance doesnt even conider you unless your BMI is 40 so I am a self pay at BMI 35.

The other thing I thought as I was sitting there is if we could all be right back there in a year or two it really wouldnt matter at what weight we all started!

I am so excited, if I could I woud drive over there now and maybe sleep in the doorway!!! I have to be there at six am I cant believe I am first!!! Good luck to all! Cali

I survived...its really weird to read the threads and blogs of people complaining about being hungry when I cant even stand to see food on the TV! I just feel all puffed up and burpy/watery! I know it wont last... Cali

With clothes jackets shoes on I weight about 216. Without I am about 209-211 pounds. Height 5'1/5'2

Goal: 110 pounds

Need to lose 100 - 110 pounds

Scheduled to get banded on June 12th :mad2:

And I am so scared, because I always believe I have an ultimate strong "fat gene" and I don't know if I can ever get skinny. 110pounds is scary, my lowest was 130ish.

Whoever else on the journey or about to start their weight loss surgery, let's cheer each other on !!! :D

Don't be discouraged! Maybe its time for a fill. My doc scheduled me for three months after my checkup last week but to come in for a fill when I started gaining or couldn't loose weight.

I feel very lucky that I have no appetite or interest in food! I dont even think about it. I wish this would last forever. I just make myself get my nutritional/fluid requirements like any other small task of self-care. Tomorrow will be one week and I really feel great! cali

Hi was banded on the 7th and I feel the same way, can't stand the smell or sight of food. I can barely get all of the Protein Drinks in. Maybe at the most three a day.

Other then that I ma feeling pretty good today. Hope it stays this way, so the pounds will drop off. (FAST)

I am 5'0 and weigh 198 - getting banded May 21. I so understand the looks you got - almost like, you're not big enough to be here.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
