Bunny Bandsters - April '09, MASTER THREAD #1

Recommended Posts

Sharon- Thanks for the shout out.

Andrea- JT's right, I'm on a plateau now, but like him, I'm about at goal. Tracking things for a short time and checking the rules has always helped me (even things like not getting enough Water can slow the WL). My WL went down in spurts, so maybe this will just be a short stall.

JG- You already know you're in starvation mode and have slipped into 'soft food syndrome'...not a good thing with the band. Sounds like you're too tight and the stuck or PB's every day can cause complications. You probably just need a tiny bit out, but if you let it go on you're going to get so swollen they'll have to do a bigger unfill. Call the doc GF!

jerseygirl I'm in a similar situation...I've started eating yogurt with Protein Powder for Breakfast, today I'm going to try premade tuna salad in a cup I've been eating Soups at lunch the meat and soft veggies and dinner I made some meat with condensed mushroom Soup (don't add water) in the crockpot cooks it very tender. I've been adding sugar free popcicles of some sort in the evening or a Protein Shake. I also eat low fat piminto (sp) spread or cream cheese on Triscuts, I can only eat a couple of these but they go down ok and don't get stuck. I find the rules they've been telling us about all this time really have to be stuck to at this point that's why I was feeling so bad a few weeks ago eating to much, to big, not chewing...

I still can't get a lot of Water and my milk consumption is down but a small meal last me a long time.

The whole thing makes Kirk feel bad cause when he's home and we go out I order a side of mashed potatoes and eat a quarter of it.

I also stalled or had very little loss in November and December. Middle of December, I had another fill and have now lost 10 pounds. food intake is much less. And I have to remind myself to eat now, never get hungry.

BG & JT Thanks for the response. No sense calling the Dr's Office as they are at the Hosp doing fills. Awaiting response from the nutritionist.

My problem is that I am no where near my goal! I want to be, but I've got such a long ways to go. I probably should try to meet with the nutrionist when I get my fill. She is new and I really wish the old gal was still there. She was a lot easier to talk to.

JG- Sorry for the earlier post, I realized later you said your Doc already said the band was OK. I think the nutritionist is a great idea. I know I had to 'relearn' how to eat after each fill...what worked before doesn't always work now. I'm anxious to see what tips whe gives you!

Happy weekend all! -BG

Happy Valentine's Day everyone.

BG - The nutritionist via email was no help. It was blah blah blah - we need to talk. I've been super super careful (small bits and chew chew chew) and have not had any PB's since I posted. Still having trouble getting in all my calories.

How the heck do you get in 1200 calories a day when you can only eat 1/2 cup at a time and you're only supposed to eat 3 meals a day. That's what I'm asking Pat when I talk to her.

Hmm...that's tough (my Nut was pretty much useless too...she gave us different directions than at our pre-op class). Me, I'd be eating more than 3 meals a day if you can stomach them now...1/2C, you're right...no way can you get in enough nutrients or calories for the day in 3 meals. I only eat 1/2C for Breakfast, but for the 2 other meals I eat about 1C sometimes 1.5C and I also often have one snack...usually nuts. Even if you can only get in liquids between meals, I'd at least try that so you can get in enough nutrients...and make sure you're getting in all your vitamins/supplements until you figure this all out. ((Hugs)) I'm sure you'll get this straightened out soon! Happy VD! -BG

Messed up last night Kirk has this new mustard he got when he was home last. He wanted to try it with a bratwurst so when I was at the store I looked and they didn’t have the kind we usually get, that you grill, so I got mettwurst both hot and mild. I decided to have one for my dinner also and proceeded to cook us up some. Just a note here I only eat about 2 hot dogs a year and these were very much like a hot dog. I cut it up in to small pieces and chewed it really well.

I had one of the worst stuck episodes I’ve ever had I was up for hours throwing up, sliming, BPing and acid refluxing. This morning I’m still sore and not really up for eating I think I’m swollen. I’m gong to give it a couple days before I call the doc I feel ok just feeling really tight once again. Just when I was being able to eat somewhat normal again....NO More Hot Dogs for me.

JT, What were you thinking. I know I know. Some days the band had a mind of it's own.

Just had an Oh Crap Notion. Had to share my latest realization. Pete was just watching a show called Extreme Terror Rides. He is a ride junkie. I can no longer use the excuse that I can't fit on a ride. Damn.

Looks like I wasn't, liquids only today and I'm feeling better.

Lucky for me Kirk's not so into the rides either so I don't have to worry to much about that.

Ouch JT...it's always that stuff that doesn't break down but is pliable...it's like a stopper in the stoma. Glad you're feeling better!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
