New and trying to figure it all out!!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am Krista, 29, from Salem SD. I have been thinking about lapband for a few years but never able to afford it (ins never covered it). But I recently moved here and got a new job and found that my insurance covers it! I have contacted a Dr in Mitchell and one in Sioux Falls and they can get this process going fairly quick! I am just not sure about taking the time off to heal and readjusting my life so fast. I feel like a need a few months to prepare. So I have deceided to read everything I can get my eyes on before I make the life change. I have never had surgery before and I think I am more scared of that than giving up all the foods I love for 6 months ( and some forever). I am aslo nervous about having a good support system!

Hope to hear from you soon!

Finally, another person from SD!! I live 15 miles to your east in Humboldt. I am almost 5 months out. I had Dr Thaemert at the Surgical Institute in Sioux Falls do mine and he is absolutely great! I am going for my 3rd fill on the 20th. Let me know if you need anything or have any questions.

Hello Krista and welcome to LBT!

Research is a great first start. I would also contact my insurance to find out their requirements and what bariatric doctors are in the network.

As far as giving up certain foods forever. I was never told that by my doctor. I was always told I can all foods types, but just in modification.

Now I know there are some people who are not able to eat certain foods because it does not agree with their band. I am not one of those people and I am able to eat small portions of all food types.

Good luck with your research!

Research is a wonderful thing. I wouldn't worry about the food thing, everyone is different with the band. As you have probably read the band are very individual. I am able to eat small quantites of almost everything. Losing 60 lbs in six months is better than any food. I just went shopping today and for the first time slipped into a regular size 14. WOW, no womens department! that is a GREAT feeling. Wish you luck on your journey.

i'm from SD too! Sioux Falls to be specific  i was banded on 12.31.08 by Dr Glatt at Sanford. He did a wonderful job and I've been pleased with him thus far. I actually had my first fill yesterday and it went well; other than the fact i waited almost an hour for him to do it! lol let me know if any questions :)

I also forgot to say that if you are interested there is a weight loss support group at Sanford that meets the 3rd Monday of every month at 7pm. This month's meeting is this coming Monday. Its for people at all stages of their weight loss journey. It would be good to attend if you have any questions. I have all the other info on it if you are interested

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
