Unless there are other factors (like contracting an STD anally) then no, it doesn't make you more likely to have colon cancer.

Family history of cancer, personal history of colon cancer, diseases that cause chronic inflammation or ulcers, and certain genetic conditions are the main precursors to colon cancer.

The National Cancer Institute lists anal sex as a risk factor for anal cancer.

Edited to add link:

Anal Cancer Treatment - National Cancer Institute

I'm guessing that the NCI knows what they are talking about.

I believe, as a prior poster said, that any increased risk for cancer would be mediated by an STD, such as HPV (human papilloma virus), which could be contracted through anal sex and is a well-recognized risk factor for cancer.

Of course, HPV can be contracted through vaginal sex,and is also associated with cervical cancer. So by that line of argument vaginal intercourse 'causes' cervical cancer.

Weird fact: Gay men have lower incidences of prostate cancer due to their anal sex activity. Massaging the prostate is good for the body and decreases your risk for that type of cancer.

I have waaay too many stories about anal warts, dysplasia, and rectal cancer then I care to share. If you are concerned, please ask your doctor about getting a anal pap smear.

Their colon cancer listing doesn't mention anything about it. I'm guessing the anal/rectal cancers stem from dysplasia due to either STD's or inflammation.

Anal warts can be caused by anal sex...even protected anal sex. Condoms really only cover a certain amount of area, and if you have HPV down by the base of your penis or close to your scrotum, that can definately come into contact with whomever you are having sex with.

If gone untreated or undetected, HPV can change into dysplasia which can then turn into cancer. The same can happen in a women's cervix which can also cause infertility.

This is why you should ask about getting an anal pap smear if you happen to routinely engage in receptive anal sex.

As far as I am aware, you can not get anal cancer if both you and your partner are STD free and engaging in anal sex.

I believe I just saw a headline that claimed, "Cancer linked to Masturbation"

Not sure of the exact wording, but that's the idea. So if not even masturbation is safe...I protect myself in all activities (of course it helps a lot that I have been in a monogomous (spelling?) happy marriage for 5 years), but I also enjoy life.

I read that. It was a study linking increased masturbation by men to increased risk of prostate cancer. Interestingly enough, this contradicts another recent study that claimed frequent masturbation decreased prostate ca risk. Bottom line.....researchers often don't know what in the hell they're talking about.

That study was probably the same study that claims fat people have infectious fat cooties.

So if someone could explain to me why they like anal sex, I would greatly appreciate it. I don't see how it could be enjoyable. I know people say if they relax it is enjoyable, but how is it possible to have an orgasm that way? There isn't anything in the anus that would cause an orgasm. I am confused.

I have shot my load plenty of times when having oral sex. It was the best that I have ever cum

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
