excerise....how long after surgery?

Recommended Posts

My dr says about 4-6 weeks postop you can start excerising again. I acctully get my first fill on Wednesday which will be 22 days post-op. I am going to ask him if I can start excerising again. Especially since I am wasting $$ not being able to use my gym membership! I want to start up again. I know I am ready becuase I really feel great, plus I am ready to start seeing some more weight drop off! I feel really motivated and not given the "ok" to return to excerise is holding me back. What was everyone else's guidelines for returning to excerise?

What kind of exercise are you talking about? Did you specify the type you wanted to do to your doctor? If it is weight lifting, aerobics etc, then yes, you need to give your body time to heal. Or are you talking about walking - the dr's rules MIGHT be different. I was ok'd for walking (and was walking home from work in 3 days) BUT only after I ok'd it with the surgeon.

I suggest you have another chat with the dr's office.

My program gives you 6 wks with the hospital's trainers for 6wks with your surgery cost and you begin your exercise 1 wk after surgery.

Well two hours after surgery I was required to start walking and I did all the time. It was a very slow walk, but gradually I picked up the pace.

Two weeks and 4 days after surgery, I started power walking and lifting light weights. I felt great at that time as was ready to go.

My doctor stated I could exercise with light weights and power walks two weeks post op. No Marathons or anything like that.

Well I was ok'd for walking immiedately right out of recovery and as time went on the more I could walk after healing from surgery progressed. My doctor told me no lifting weights or doing the weight machines until 4 weeks post op. Just take it easy and dont over do it all at once, you will get there. It's amazing how fast your body will adapt to exercise and the intensity as long as your doing it regularly. Good luck on your journey

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
