So the post op diet has been really stressful for me. Based on the book I was given by my surgeon, I did a week of Clear Liquids adding Protein Drinks after day 3. Per the booklet, I added full liquids after one week. Then about 4 days into that I found some papers that the nutrionist had given me. These directed me to do clear liquids for 2 weeks, adding Protein Shakes after day 3. I am still not sure which one I am to follow since the office is closed until Monday.

I started very soft food as instructed when I was 2 weeks post op. I was banded on 12/18 so would have been 12/31. I haven´t had any problems- no pain or anything like that.

I don´t think I´ve damaged anything- I am just really confused about what I was supposed to do. I guess it doesn't matter now since I am on to soft foods, but I am just annoyed! I don't particularly care for the nutrionist. The last time I saw her, she spend more time asking me about what I thought she should incorporate into her next bariatric presentation. I was also supposed to see her at the same time I saw the surgeon for my post op visit, but she wouldn't squeeze me in even though I live an hour away. I sent her an email and she did call me, but only answered one question I had (about how much liquid I should be taking in every hour), but never replied to my email.

Then today (the reason I feel so guilty), I ate a few small bites of pasta! What was I thinking! It was really well cooked and I chewed, chewed, and chewed some more, but I feel so terrible! Not physically, but mentally. Do you guys think I messed anything up? I don't feel that I am swollen anymore, because my hunger came back with a vengeance about 2 days ago. Besides my little slip today, I have been following the insutructions to a T. What do you guys think? Is this normal?

Hello and congratulations on joining the band! I only have one thing to say - CALM DOWN! :tongue2: You're going to worry yourself to death, which, by the way, is absolutely normal. You've made a drastic change for your life. The surgery was just the beginning. But remember it didn't change your mindset, it only changed your body internally. The external changes - actions, lost weight - will come as time goes by.

I think you might be stuck in the same mentality that many of us are - the DIET MENTALITY. :) This is not a "diet" but a new way of thinking about eating, food, and self-image. It will take time, Fellow Bandster. I'm about eight weeks out & I'm still fighting to stay off the scale everyday. Instead, I'm making sure I get all my Protein & fluids in. Working on being more active. The rest will happen.

So I end with the word of advice I began with - CALM DOWN - you're doing fine. Don't think about what you ate, but WHY you ate. Dealing with those issues are far more demanding than keeping some Pasta out of your mouth. :cursing:

Best to You

Follow the booklet your surgeon gave you until monday. Don't eat any more Pasta or foods that are "ahead" in the timeline of your post op diet!

Hang in there; they call it bandster hell for a reason. It's hard, and the conflicting diets they gave you can't make it any easier! So do what your doc says and call on Monday and hang in there until then. Don't feel guilty, but don't eat any more pasta (for now, until you're in that phase)

Thanks guys!

I know I am supposed to be on soft foods now based both on the books and the handouts- the only conflicting info was regarding the 2cnd week, which I am past. Do you guys think I need to tell them about the Pasta? Or should I tell them about the conflicting information regarding the diet?

I am trying to calm down, but I am sooo mad at myself for eating the pasta! It was literally 3 pieces of the spirals, but WHY did I do that?? Maybe because it just looked sooooo good and I was soooo hungry. I had my egg in front of me- so it's not like there was nothing else around. I definitely cannot eat as much I could pre-band, but I also don't feel like I have any restriction, which from reading this forum sounds like it´s pretty normal.

You can "tell" or not...if it will help you relax about it, then tell your surgeon but I bet he'll say you'll be fine (you're a ways out, now!) To quote Remnant98...calm down! It was just 3 spirals of Pasta, not a side of beef! :tongue2: Just follow the doc's instructions, call on monday, tell him about the pasta IF YOU WANT, (can't hurt) and tell him about the conflicting info. He won't give you grief for doing what he said! :)

Chill, chickie. You'll be fine! :cursing:

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
