Any February 2009 Bansters?

Recommended Posts

:thumbup:Hello Tam, I have been mostly check labels on food. Making sure that they are low in carb. and high in Protein. I bought some of the Atkins shakes, they are pretty good. Make sure you put them in ice. I try to eat like I already have the band on, smaller plate, smaller bites, etc. It seems to be working. My only problem is getting off my butt and going for a walk. I have always had problems with exercising.

Good Luck,

Edwina

Edwina I understand the exercise part.... I'm trying to get 30 min in a day and it is just not happening. So tomorrow I start in the am with a walking tape. Motivation is the key. Tam

I have the time to exercise and I do, so that will not be the hard part. I am worried about head hunger. I am hoping the band will help. I will try to push the Feb bandsters to exercise. I really mix up my exercise. I play tennis 2x a week, I do 2 Zumba classes a week ( lots of fun!!) and Yoga 2x a week followed by weights. I have found it helpful to have an exercise buddy and to do it away from home.

It is so important to the success of having the band. I am trying to figure out what I will be able to do immediately postop. I will keep you updated.:cursing:

I get my Band next Thursday 02/05/2009. I am nervous, but I know this is for me. Besides after all the poking and prodding, of my body, mind, insurance, and wallet I would be crazy to turn back now!

Hey Edwina.. I'm also being banded on the 3rd in Corpus Christi. I was wondering what all you are eating on your low carb diet... I'm also on the same thing but all I can think of is chicken... and eggs..

Good luck... Tam

Hey Tam...I'm being banded on the 2nd of Feb in Corpus Christi also. I'm on a pre-op diet that consists of 5 no sugar added carnation instant Breakfast shakes a day. THAT'S IT! This is the hardest thing I've ever had to do. Anyways...Good luck to you.

Kristal just wondering who your dr. is. Mine is Dr. Griffin. I plan on going all liquid Sunday and Monday just to be on the safe side. I also take a liver pill to remove all the fat from my liver that I've been on for a couple of years. Dr. Griffin is interested to see how it looks with the meds. I'm hoping all is good.

I'm having mine done at Bay Area, they say it is a really nice hospital. I'm from south of Houston.

Keep in touch my email is exumtam@gmail.com if you want to stay in touch easier then on here. Tam

PS Good luck!

I wanted to know about the liver pills.... My liver is enlarged (with fat surrounding it) how long have you been on the pills and are they helping... I am in Kuwait and I don't think my doctor is providing me with enough information about this...he suggest that I have the balloon inserted...maybe I should postpone my surgery...it is scheduled for 3 Feb

I am having my band surgery on February 19th, I'm very excited, I have been researching and considering the band for a few years now and I'm soooo ready to get started. I am a classic yoyo dieter and the older I get the harder it is to keep off any weight. It's a bit scary taking this step, I have to pay for the entire surgery out of pocket since my insurance will not cover it and with our economy in the present condition, I keep having second thoughts about spending the money on myself. I've come this far though with all the tests and appointments done, I have to move forward. I know the future will be a huge improvement and I can lose the weight I need to get rid of:wink:

Hi, I'm from Brisbane, Australia and am being banded on 3rd February. The pre-op diet has been no carb/high Protein and I've lost 5kg and haven't really been hungry.

My dietitian warned me to beware that I might get the blues on day 2 post op and think "What have I done" but she assures me it'll will be magic. I won't be able to help losing weight and I'll never put it on again. Wow. Can't wait. The only fly in the ointment is that I resigned from my job due to stress and am coping with the baggage that such an act provides.

As soon as I look decent enough I'm into a business suit and off for as many job interviews as I can.

Joy.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
