I have my surgery date, February 25, 2009 at UCSD. I am in San Diego. Anyone else from San Diego having surgery at UCSD. I am so ready. Tired of being sick and tired. Tired of carring around 100+ extra pounds. Sound familiar to anyone?

I am going to be banded 02/24th in Los Angeles. I am nervous but yet excited I guess. Is anyone else as nervous and scared and anxoius as I am?

My surgery is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 26, and like those before me I am excited and a little scared. I fluctuate daily--sometimes hourly--between I CAN DO THIS and I DON'T KNOW IF I CAN DO THIS!

It's great to know there are thousands of others out there just like me. It's also helpful to me to read about the struggles and triumphs of others who've gone before me. Thanks for sharing!

Ugh! I feel the same way, I change the way I feel every moment. Emotional roller coaster!

I was banded three days ago and am feeling just okay. I put myself on a pre-op diet because my doctor did not require it. I lost 18 lbs. Be careful with the last supper thing that is what got us here in the first place. Remember that food will be here later just smaller amounts. This is the first day that I have got my Protein in and that was just because I downed a protein bullet. I have not felt hungry yet but you have to force the fluids down. There is nothing simple about this process. Good luck to you all

I so agree with just feeling OK. I was banded on the 2nd. I still have a yucky taste in my mouth (Doc said from the anesthesia) I have to force my self to get the minimum of 64 ounces in a day. I am hungry, I think, ... but not really. No vomiting. Occaisional nausea.... usually after getting yucky tasting fluids in. The stuff I loved to drink before just taste awful. I switched from liquid Lortab to splitting a vicodin- thinking that might help with taste in my mouth. we will see. I am not quite ready for plain tylenol yet.

Hey everyone! I was banded yesterday, February 5th. I am feeling okay. Been taking my pain medication about every 6-7 hours. I can feel when I've had too much to drink or drank it too fast. I also sometimes have pain at my port site. I feel like I'm doing pretty good. I'm not hungry at all. I'm having trouble getting my fluids and Protein in. I had 4 oz. chicken broth for Breakfast and then I started drinking my Isopure to get my protein in. Well I've taken a couple naps today, so I am only finishing up my 20 oz. of Isopure now. That's only 40 grams of protein and 24 oz. of fluids. :cursing: I hope tomorow will be a better day where I can get more fluids and protein in. I know it's important to get protein in for healing and so I don't lose any hair, but I get so full so quickly. It hurts to drink too much or too fast, so I'm trying to slowly get it all in. Otherwise I feel pretty good. I've never had surgery before this one. I hope everything goes great! I'm so excited to be banded and start losing weight. :)

I was banded a week tomorrow and my biggest issue is still the bad taste in mouth. Will it ever go away????

I was banded on 2/2. I have the some problem although it is improving. My doc said it from the anesthesia. Today is better. I can actually taste things the way they should be. I struggle to get the fluids in. I am so used to drinking with a straw and that is a major no no! I still can't handle the taste of the Protein drinks- they were Ok before the surgery... but now they just make me nauseated. I am sure you will be tasting things better soon also.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
