Is this all water weight?

Recommended Posts

My wife and I both got banded on the 8th and so far at the beginning of my 5th day I've lost 12 pounds. My wife has lost 8.

Her sister got banded about a year and a half ago and took off 120 lbs, but only 13 during the first month.

Is it safe to assume that the vast majority of this is Water weight? Can I assume that the rapid loss will slow down once we move to the full liquids and then mushies?

I lost 8lbs in the first week after surgery, and that's it. As soon as I hit mushies, and then solids, weight loss pretty much stopped. I bounced back and forth between the same 2lbs for a few weeks. I got my first fill at one month post-op and have now lost (and kept off) another 4lbs, bringing my total to roughly 12lbs in the first 5 weeks.

I've been told by my surgeon that weight loss in the first 6 weeks is a blessing, because your body is healing from surgery and you shouldn't expect to lose lots of weight. Hopefully with your first fill, you will start seeing a more regular 1-2lb/week weight loss. Of course in the beginning you have more weight to lose, so you will lose weight faster. As you get closer to goal, naturally the weight loss slows down. Hope this helps!

Maybe I shouldn't have asked - I think I jinxed myself!

I woke up this morning and weighed myself - up .4 pounds from yesterday - I killed the trend by asking LOL!

Oh well - I'm NOT discouraged at all.. I'm still 11.6 pounds down from where I was on Monday morning - I can't complain about that at all!

Losing weight in the first week isn't really probable because YES, it IS a lot of Water weight and swelling.

I have actually lost weight in the first four days! I've lost two pounds! And I can definetly feel the swelling in my stomach. I went from 209 to 207....so yeah.

I've been fluxing back and forth since Sunday within a 2 pound range. We started our full liquids on Sunday - interesting coincidence!

So, I had my first weigh-in today - 11 pounds since surgery.

I promise, I'm not trying to rain on your parade at all...just trying to prepare you. I am just now losing weight again. I've been within the same 3lb range for 4 weeks!!! I'm finally back down to where I was the first week after surgery. FINALLY! I had my first fill 2 weeks ago yesterday, so I guess it's a delayed reaction for me. I'm eating a lot less these past 4 days, so I'm finally starting to see a daily drop on the scale, even if it's just .2 or .4 it's dropping!

Don't get discouraged if you flucuate between the same 2lbs until after your first fill. The key here is to NOT GAIN! Make good food choices and get some exercise and try your best to maintain over Christmas!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
