I was sleeved 6/22 and except for the usual incisinal pain all was right until this past friday. Now everything I eat causes pain. It almost feels like my stomach has spasams or is contracting or something like that.

I have not gone off my diet at all, on full liquids now. Even Water hurts now. :) I am calling Richmond tomorrow but was wondering if anyone else who is sleeved has had this happen?

Please let me know

Thanks

Sherri

Sorry to hear the trouble Sherri. Did your doctor give you carafate? It's a stomach coater.

I bet they are closed today so you may try emailing your doctor.

Let us know what happens.

Hi Sherri, I didn't have that problem with my Sleeve. Are you sipping slowly? Sometimes walking around after drinking or eating feels pretty good. What foods are you eating now that you're in full liquids?

April, I hope they figure out what's going on with your band before you have anymore pain.

Mo - OWIEEEEE

Hi and happy holiday weekend to everyone! I just spent a week getting over jetlag from my trip to France where I had a great time. I have been really serious with my exercise so that I'll be at 174 when I see Dr. Baggs mid-August. Last week I only walked 20 minutes and swam once because after 9 hour work days, I was only able to walk 2 miles Monday and Tuesday. The jetlag and 9 hour time difference had me really tired until Wednesday.

I hit a milestone on Friday. First time under 189 in over 30 years. I've definitely been celebrating, but with walking, not food. I'm determined to be "overweight" at my six month check-up.

Take good care everyone. Kaiser support group is Wednesday night for anyone that wanted a reminder.

hey Sherri-yes this has happened to me too....What kind of stomach antacid did they give you? Remember they took out 85% of our stomach and it can get VERY swollen until it heals. I still have really bad incision pains too. I can't sleep right and if I move a certain way it scares me but I have to remember they cut through our muscles. I think you will be okay cause this still happens to me-especially when you change stages. Call the doc if you are still worries but I have the same problem!

I had a fabulous FOURTH! My Sleeve is doing what it is suppose to do! I didn't want to eat at all yesturday! (or any other day) and had to remind myself to eat!!!! I know if I didn't get sleeved I would have been grazing all day long.

That's great Tamra. I'll look forward to it.

Sherri, the most critical thing for you right now is that you don't get dehydrated. I'm concerned because you have pain drinking Water which would have me want to stop doing it. I know a lot of people that had to be admitted to the ER to get hydrated. I'm on Protonix 2x a day for anti-acid. When my sleeve was irritated for a couple of months, Dr. Baggs gave me Carafate at my three month visit. That's what is generally given to RNY patients to coat the stomach and reduce chance of irritation. I only took it for about a week. I've recently determined that what causes the irritation for me is eating meat. As someone who's been vegan or vegetarian for most of my adult life, not eating meat is easy for me. We all have to find our own path. Since you're still on full liquids, I would definitely check in with Kaiser tomorrow and ask for help. This doesn't sound like the incision pain that you're already familiar with. Insist on getting help, even if it's in the form of getting fluids at your local Kaiser.

Please keep us posted on how you're doing.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and help.

I am on Protonix once a day, but nothing else. I am still drinking, just not as much as before the pain. I definately don't want to end up back in the hospital.

I left a message for Richmond, but I guess they are closed today. Hopefully they will get back to me tomorrow...

I am still eating and drinkng despite the pain, just not as much as I was

thanks again and I will let you know what the dr says

Sherri,

Who is your doctor? Everyone that I have talked to is on Protonix 2x a day, morning and evening. Find out if you should be taking more given the discomfort that you're having. You may be producing too much acid for your Sleeve to handle.

I use the carafate too and I am banded............it seems to help after fills or if I PB to coat the stomach and keep the swelling down.

I have Dr. Baggs too and he is the one that gave me the carafate. I got it right after I had all my Fluid taken out back in November to deal with the swelling of my stomach but they gave me three HUGE bottles and I still have two left that I use off and on.

Sure does help with swelling..........

Bad weekend with all the food around. I am back on protiens today but so feel the after effects of the junk food. Darn it I just can't eat that stuff anymore without feeling sluggish and having a headache the next day......

Sugar and carb overload. I haven't been hungry at all today.

Great week to all. Gonna be a hot one in Sacramento.

I got the Jillian MIchaels 30 day shred. I heard good things about it at the last support meeting. 20 minutes a day but they said your sweating. I am gonna start it in the morning.........

Evening everyone!

OMG Banded people - I am thinking I don't need any more fills, maybe even .5 out? I PB'ed again today. I am finding I can no longer handle breads/croissant which is okay, but ouch! I don't like the feeling of being stuck. Am I FULL and not realizing and thats why its getting stuck? am I eating TOO FAST? It seems like I get stuck on meats as well, even when I chew 30 times. Thoughts?

TAMRA:

If you have gained some weight the band will tighten up. Also not being able to eat bread is a good sign means you might be at your sweet spot!! I agree with you anymore than a couple PB's a week and you DON'T want another fill!! Your too tight if all your doing is liquids and sliders. IF you can still eat good food and protiens I say keep your fill.

That said I am not getting a fill this month. I just don't see myself needing it yet. I might try to put it out another two weeks..............I gained three over the weekend but I am hoping that if I cut the carbs and sugars and drink alot of Water it will come back off.

I gave myself one day for freedom for the holiday and ate to much bad stuff............my band wouldn't let me go crazy!! But the combo of carb and sugar seems to have done me in!!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
