Kaiser Richmond Pre-op

Recommended Posts

Hey Everybody!

Maria~Wow, I'm so sorry. How scary? What do you mean "sensitive to foods"?

Nicole~I wonder if RNY is an option for me. I failed to mention I have gained 20lbs since May 2014 (in 8 months or so). I did try for 10....but not 20! I do need to have my plan ready. I see the DR. Monday.

Reggie~I sent you a message. I am a little afraid of the other procedures too.

Ashley~I miss you. We need a whooping!!! Can I have wine wine mine?

I called and scheduled an appointment on Monday. The Dr ordered an upper GI too. I have to call and schedule it tomorrow. I am getting scared but understand it may be best to take it out. Question??? I currently weigh 185lbs. I need to lose 15-20lbs to be back to goal. I'd be okay with the 15... Would they do a sleeve on me with so little weight to lose?

Girl with ur current weight u probably won't qualify for a revision... I was 220 when I got mine. Gaining is a pain in the arse I get it totally. I recommend dr Jenkins in auburn:). He got me into surgery quick and whenever I get right I get an endo fast

You have to qualify for a revision too so yeah you probably wouldn't. I got in very quickly too. I am happy with the sleeve. It's so different it's crZy.

Miss all you ladies!

I do believe Kaiser is having lots of problems with us band patients. I think a lot of people are having them removed. Dr Im sounds so by the way when he said, "We could always take it out." He also said, "Let's take it out." Without even seeing me or any testing...Why are they so willing to remove these dang bands? Are the studies now that bad?

Yeah my new dr said the complications after two years are so common now and they don't even do them anymore. She said maybe one a year. She takes our more. It's sad really.

I must say I do not have any regrets either way. I think it has been a great experience. Even with my stuck, PBing, earlier bowel issues, current tightness in the AM, and burning issues......

They are a fireign object... My surgeon in auburn still does them but also does the sleeve and rny:)

Exactly. We knew the risks....At least I did.

Now, we need to plan a get together... Heck, it sounds like we want to eat! I'm not sure we're ready to hit the pavement.

Let's plan a reconnect lunch. Just my 2.

Monique, get the test and do what you feel is best for you. It's just too bad the the band didn't work for me.

Nicole my fear of RNY is the complications after surgery. I've heard a lot of gruesome stories.

Coco( had to distinguish the Nicoles lol) how are you doing with that gorgeous baby of yours... I still owe you a visit:-(.

Chi everyone,

I saw that this thread was active again so I wanted to pop in and say hello.

Congrats on the new babies. I'm so sorry so many of you have had problems. I know a lot of RNY patients who had no problems if you're considering a revision.

I still love my sleeve, but it's a daily mindfulness(diet) to maintain my weight loss. Getting off the weight was slow going for me. Keeping it off takes a lot of work eating low carb, but it's possible.

Take care everyone. Happy 2015!!!

Hello Everyone,

So....the results from my upper GI are in....I am having the band removed!!! I am so scared. The result were...the band is in the proper place-no slippage, no errosion. However, my stomach itself was "slow" to empty. Even with zero saline/fill in my band. It appeared extremely tight. We were able to see the flow of barium stop at my stomach. The tech said my stomach appears lazy and things should move to my intestines quicker. Dr. Im suggest removal with no additional procedure. He said I coulld end up more hurt.... I am still happy with the result...Just nervous to take it out... It will either be 2/9 or 2/18. I'm waiting on the Dr to reply to my email...

Question-to those who have had it removed....Doe it hurt? Have yo regained any weight? How much can you eat now? SCARED!!!!

Hi Monique..what I meant by sensitive to foods is that I get heartburn bad on just about everything!! And I'm sorry to hear you need the band removed. Well I can telll you that surgery to get it removed is the same as placing the band same recovery time. It took a little while to get used to the amounts so start slowly if possible try to eat the same amounts as you do now banded. I've gained 35 lbs since my removal in 0October 2013 so I guess that's not to bad. Expect to gain dr baggs told me it's like when a balloon disinflates..it could come on quick if you are.not careful. But since you are aware of it you will work harder to not allow it. I can eat everything and as much as I allow myself too...at least untill the heartburn kicks is...one thing too I still get sharp pains where my port used to be..dr said that would happen because he had to cut into a big muscle where the port was at. You can do this..its for the better for you. I dont regret removing it..im not worried anymore about a slip or corrosion.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
