Post op diet help please

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

I'm being banded on 17th Nov. I'm guessing I'll need to do some shopping before I go to hospital but I have no idea what I'll be eating. Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

Once you get home you can have any thing that will fit up a straw. I kept taking the Optifast - had to make each shake in 2 stages, about 35 minutes a part. I also had gatorade, fruit juice, milk drinks and custard - lots of custard. To start with, I would add milk so it ended up pretty much like a milk drink, but a couple of days out from mushy stage, I just left it as is, sort of a transition.

coffee was good too and I made my own Soups. I would cook up some veg and chicken, then stick the whole lot in the blender until baby food consistency. Then I pushed it all through a sieve and only had the liquid. I kept the pulp in the freezer and now I can have it at this stage

You will do fine. Just remember to take it really slowly.

just have a good supply of your favourite drinks....better if they have some nutrition....not gassy drinks

and lots of broth and then onto nice Soups that have been blitzed and when you have the go ahead you can then go onto mushies

also have some pain meds, and I found a hot pack a big help too

good luck

Hi,

My dietician told me to have sustogen hospital grade which I did for the first few weeks then she told me to go on to the mushie stage. I would also recomend that you buy some degas as you will need that to.

Hi there,

Well I have been doing it since Friday. I am not meant to start it until Tuesday but I wanted to start early. Well I failed today. I felt terrible missed opti breaky and lunch and hardly drank any water! So at dinner time I decided to have stirfry and rice with the family.

I hope as from Tuesday I am going to be able to do this.

You should give it a trial run see how you go.

Caz

My dietitian said I can go on Protein only diet before being banded. i.e. meat, eggs, fish, chicken only but definitely no carbohydrates as your liver needs to become floppy so the surgeon can move it out of the way for a minute. Carbohydrates i.e. bread, rice, Pasta etc bulks up the liver.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
