Holy Protein Cow! Cottage Cheese!

Okay, I am simply astounded at how many grams of Protein are in cottage cheese. Un-freakin'-believable! Why wasn't I eating this earlier???

My hubby picked up some FF cottage cheese for me on my pre-op diet and I was just poking my nose in the frig for a snack. Looked at the nutritional info and about dropped to the floor. I have been really working on ways to beef up my protein and just completely missed this one. It has 12 grams of protein per serving. Just crazy good news for me!

I am very curious about the Greek Yogurt I will have to check out our Walmart to see if they carry it. Is it usually with the other Yogurt?

You mix yogurt or cottage cheese with hummus? I love hummus and had forgotten about that... how's the protein for that? I'm really looking forward to mushies next Thursday!!!

Try a touch of cinnamon, splenda and a splash of vanilla. One of my favorites.

Cottage cheese is good if you mix it with tuna instead of mayonaise. If you dont like the curds, you can get the smooth kind or put in a blender to smooth. Also, Hummus and imitation crabmeat has loads of protein. Check it out.

I'm trying that tonite!

a good trick with the greek yoghurt is to mix fruit into it to give it some flavour

someone posted a while back, mix cottage cheese with sugar free jello an i said ewww, but then i decided to try it an my goodness it,s a treat taste good.

Greek yogurt goes well with savoury stuff - try grating up a little cucumber (skin and all) to put in it and making your own cucumber dipping sauce. Serve with sliced fresh salad veges (carrot, celery, capsicum) and you have lunch! YUM!

:thumbup:One of my favorite meals is cottage cheese mixed with a very chunky salsa. Delicious!

Thanks for the information ! I will have my husband pick some of this up for me , I usually hate cottage cheese but if it has that much protien then i will eat it

Yup, I love Cot cheese. My grandmother used to take warm green Jello and mix in cottage cheese, pineapple and peacons....its an old southern dish.

We used to eat it mixed with canned peachs as kids. I like it with a scrambled egg and a pickle...I know it sounds weird but I love it. lol I see a lot of people use it in the place of ricotta.

What brand of greek yogurt are you eating with 22g of proteing per serving? I'm eating fage single serving containers with 17 g of Protein because Oikos single serving containers do not have as much as fage. Please tell me which one you're eating. I want the 22g of protein. I LOVE greek yogurt. I like it with 1-2 t of splenda with fresh berries and a little granola with added walnuts for additional protein. It's a great night time snack.

Greek Yogurt is thicker and creamier than regular yorgurt.

It has a whopping 22g of protein and 0g of fat in one small container.

It does not taste that great (just being honest) but I can eat it no problem.

I think it's worth it for the protein trade off seeing it's @1/3 of your daily required protein.

I am going to start using the plain in place of sour cream as it has no fat!

I sometimes eat this in place of my dinner when I fix something for my family I cannot or am afraid to eat.

Stoneybrook Farms puts out a brand OIKOS they have plain, honey, and vanilla.

I heard they have a new flavor blueberry I am excited to try.

Walmart carries this brand in my area.

It runs @1.50 a small carton.

I really enjoy cottage cheese - and not just since banding or for protein, but because I like the taste! I use it as an appetizer (blend with various other ingredients for dips), as a main course (mixed with veggies, or hummus, or as a soup base, or topping for pasta), as a snack, and as a dessert - by itself, or with fruit, or baked into different desserts. But I have never heard of mixing it with jello - I just gotta try that!

:thumbup:I use cottage cheese a lot. I have two favorite recepies that I use a lot. One is to dice up an apple and add cinnamon and it tastes like apple pie filling. You can add splenda or any artifical sweetner if you like. I did at first but quit doing it as it tastes just as good without it.

The other one I haven't done for awhile, but you dice up tomatos, onions and green peppers to taste and mix it with cottage cheese. Very tasty.

I have never been on to be able to eat cottage cheese alone, but have been working on that since banding as it is such a good source of Protein. I remember mom making it with lime Jello and nuts also.
