Stomach spasms??? Or hunger?

Recommended Posts

I have been feeling funny in my tummy for the past 24 hours. Just wondering what this is.

If you don't know me, I was banded on Sept 30th, so I am 3.5 weeks post op. I had complications after surgery and ended up in the hospital for a week (possible reaction to the band, possible infection). I have been doing fine since then and I am now on mushies.

Since my surgery I have lost 28 lbs. I am on CPAP and I noticed that my stomach was filling with air while I sleep, so I turned down the pressure...All better now, but it worried me that I was stretching out my stomach. I hadn't really been hungry, but yesterday I felt like my stomach was growling all day. Even after eating I felt this weird "bubble-like/rumbling" feeling in my stomach. I took some lortab elixer and it seemed to help.

My surgeon's office told me that they would give me a fill when ever I felt like I needed it, but I thought I would put it off as long as I could since I was loosing weight and since I had complications(wanted to let everything heal good). Is this spasms or is it hunger? Should I get a fill?

My stomach makes strange noises, it kind of gurgles from time to time, mainly after I eat or drink, but I thought that this is normal after banding.

It is not the noises that concern me, it is the "hunger pangs". It is happening after I eat or while I am eating and it is in the upper abdomen.

I really can't offer you any specific answers to what it is, I can only tell you that it is normal. My body did all kinds of new and strange things during that time. I would have gurgling and noises and sensations that I couldn't definitively define as hunger or gas on top of other odd twitches and pains. It did get better though.

I was banded on October 8th. My stomach felt like someone was going over it with a rolling pin a couple of times but it hasn't happened for more than a week--those were probably spasms. I seldom get hunger pangs. I do get the gurgling noisy stomach and I am not hungry. I get a tiny little burp or a feeling like I might wretch (but never do) when I eat too much--like a cup of soft foods instead of the 1/2 c. I didn`t have complications except for a low fever for a couple of days. Gas is always a problem. I am beginning to find out which foods make me gassy. So far I am finding it is the food with splenda. I might be allergic to it. Everyone is different though and I think you will discover whatever it takes for you to get used to your own band. I am feeling much better this week and I think I am progressing along nicely. My husband thinks I am eating too much yet and maybe stretching my pouch but I lost 10 pounds last week. I haven`t had my first fill yet.

Thank you all for your responses. It seems to be a little better today. If it continues, I may get a fill next week.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
