Obama's birth. is he a U.S. citizen?

15_19_14.gif 15_18_10.gif Afreind sent me this. I found it very interesting...It is from the Washington Post. If you click on the highlighted names it will take you to the articals.

Obama’s birth...where really??

Pennsylvania's former deputy attorney general and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton supporter Philip J. Berg has filed a lawsuit in federal court in Pennsylvania accusing presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama of lying about his U.S. citizenship, which would make him ineligible to be president.

Mr. Berg is one of a faction of Clinton supporters who haven't heeded the party's call for unity, filing the suit just days before the opening of the Democratic National Convention, which will nominate Mr. Obama as the party's presidential candidate.

The suit, filed in U.S. District Court in Philadelphia last week, also names the Democratic National Committee and the Federal Election Commission and says Mr. Obama..s mother went to Kenya late in her pregnancy and ended up giving birth there. It also claims that later in life, Mr. Obama declared himself a citizen of Indonesia.

Thank you, Elisabeth. I was quite surprised at someone's attacking me on my "past" (not even sure what that means), my "rep", and my "credibility." I understand not agreeing with me, but that's just plain out of line.

From Sen. Obama, Stand And Deliver! -- Frank Salvato -- GOPUSA

t appears that the Illinois State Board of Elections doesn't verify a candidate's eligibility beyond requiring:

1) A Statement of Candidacy -- This form (I use the FEC form as it encompasses everything in the Illinois form) requires each candidate to provide his name, address, party affiliation, office sought, the state and district of the contest, a designation of a principle campaign committee, the designation of other authorized committees and a declaration of intent to expend personal funds.
Lastly, it requires a potential candidate to "attest" that he or she is "qualified for the office specified." At no place in the official guide or paperwork is a birth certificate or other form of verification of natural born citizenship required.

2) A Loyalty Oath -- Ironically, this is optional.

3) Receipt for filing a Statement of Economic Interests -- This is not required for Federal Office or political party offices.

4) Completed Nominating Petitions -- These petitions must be correctly filed out, notarized and contain a sufficient number of original signatures as set forth by the election commission.

Being familiar with the election process in Illinois, I then examined my county board of election's requirements. Their requirements deferred (web site) to the requirements of the State of Illinois.

Again, the question remains, is there an entity -- whether on a federal, state, county or municipal level -- that verifies a candidate's satisfaction of the requirements set forth by the US Constitution for holding the office of President of the United States?

His birth certificate has been sealed by Hawaii's Governor (I believe that happened today), so it will take the US Supreme Court to get to the document. Here are other documents of Obama's that we can't see or are "unavailable" (this list was compiled by a friend of mine):

- Occidental College records - not released.

- Columbia Thesis paper - not available, locked down by faculty.

- Harvard College records - not released, locked down by faculty.

- Selective Service Registration - not released.

- Medical records - not released (only a one-page report).

- Illinois State Senate schedule - "not available."

- Law practice client list - not released.

- Certified Copy of original Birth certificate - not released.

- Embossed, signed paper Certification of Live Birth - not released.

- Harvard Law Review articles published - None.

- University of Chicago scholarly articles - None.

This is not a personal attack towards anyone (just a simple observation), but I find that to be a common tactic of the left. When faced with reason and fact, attack the messenger and divert attention.

{sigh}

This is not just about a birth certificate. From the lawsuit, here are some of the claims:

- Obama was adopted by a Foreign Citizen, Lolo Soetoro, M.A. a citizen of Indonesia.

- Obama has or had a passport from the Government of Indonesia.

- Indonesia did not provide for dual citizenship when Obama received his passport there, which means he had to give up his US passport.

- Obama would have needed to be an Indonesian citizen to enter the school he was enrolled in in Indonesia.

- Obama traveled to Pakistan in 1981 with his Pakistan friends, stopping in Indonesia on the way to renew his passport.

- Pakistan was a no travel zone in 1981 for American Citizens. Pakistan was not allowing American Citizens to enter their country, and therefore Obama traveled on his Indonesian Passport to Pakistan.

Regardless of whether the Hawaiian birth certificate is real or not (or, I guess, the second one, because the first one was a fake), these are still legitimate questions to be answered. If Obama gave up his citizenship when he was a child, that makes him ineligible to be President.

I know if you're an Obama supporter you don't like this issue, but that doesn't make people who have legitimate questions idiots or conspiracy-nuts.

Its all moot because your US citizenship cannot be renounced for you when you are a child - you have to be 18 to make that decision yourself - so I doubt very much that Obama had an Indonesian passport if that meant renouncing his US citizenship. A step that would have required paperwork with the state by the way.

This is another attempt at making Obama inellegible. And if you think that McCain and in fact Hilary would not have by now brought that to light and empeached him if they could, I have a bridge to sell you.

"Embossed, signed paper Certification of Live Birth - not released."

Not true. Check the link I provided, its there.

1981 - 1961 = 20 years. If he renewed his Indonesian passport in 1981 he was 20 at the time. We shall see where these nine lawsuits go. You may be right -- it may be nothing.

empeached him if they could

Do you mean impeached? Obama couldn't legally be impeached unless he were elected, unless you mean impeached from his position as a Senator. Is that what you mean? I'm sorry; I'm confused. If you can clarify, I will try to answer.

BTW, as I understand it, there is a difference between a Birth Certificate and a Certificate of Live Birth. A Certificate of Live Birth, according to the State of Hawaii's own Department of Health, can be given to a person who was born in a foreign country.

I find it very interesting that Obama provided this document, not to the Board of Elections, not to the DNC, not to the Federal Elections Commission, and not to any of the judges before which cases have been brought, but rather to factcheck.org, a division of the Annenberg Foundation. If I were a public figure and people were filing lawsuits left and right in an attempt to prove something that I had documentation to show was patently false, I would simply supply the documentation to the courts.

If we were questioning the validity of a republican to run (under the same circumstances), it would be a left-wing three-ring circus. They would NOT take this lying down, and they all know it. :)

I love a reasonable Republican. If there had been a Democratic in office the last eight years the Reps would have impeached him already.

We welcome the support of the many Republicans that have openly

stated their support for Obama. The tide is turning for this country and I could not be happier.

I have never voted by party, I vote according to the person/issue. But I am more on the conservative side of financial issues.

Obama is the first prez that I have ever actually wanted and been excited about. Every election I'm trying to decide who will do the least damage. Obama is the first potential prez that I really really want to win because I think he will do a great job.

I could not agree with you more.

Again I appreciate your intelligent honesty.

How socialism doesn't hurt a country is beyond me. Name me one that has thrived under socialism.

I guess the have-nots are more than happy to vote in a socialist since they believe they will be getting what I worked hard for. If the dems weren't always offering my money via perks and hand-outs to losers, nobody would ever vote for them. It's all they have.

Oh, unless by impeached you mean challenged? As in impeaching someone's credibility or validity?

I believe the empeach definition is quite broad I meant it as:

impeach

c.1380, "to impede, hinder, prevent," from Anglo-Fr. empecher, from O.Fr. empecher "hinder" (12c.), from L.L. impedicare "to fetter, catch, entangle," from L. in- "in" + pedica "shackle," from pes (gen. pedis) "foot." Sense of "accuse a public officer of misconduct" first recorded 1568, via confusion with L. impetere "attack, accuse."
