Menorrhagia?

Recommended Posts

I developed this after gaining weight. I was wondering how many of y'all have this or had it before weight loss. I am hoping weight loss will alleviate it.

I've had extremely heavy periods and spent about a year and a half to almost two years bleeding heavily almost constantly. I had two D&Cs last year, with the last one finally ending the problem. Since then, the periods I've had have just been horribly heavy and painful. Oddly, I hardly ever had periods before all of that started, so it was a very strange change. I have PCOS and my GYN attributed it to the hormonal fluctuations. My periods of late have been heavy, but much shorter than before (from 2 weeks to about a week or little less). It is getting much better as I lose weight.

Growing up, I had horribly painful periods, though they were normal in flow and length. My cycle was a bit short, a family trait. But when I say painful, I mean cold sweat, lying on the bathroom floor, vomiting and bad bowel issues kind of painful. That got better with age, tho the pain is sometimes still severe.

For the last year and a half, tho, I have had heavy, heavy flow, tho still normal in length. And my cycle is no longer short - it went from about 21 days to 28 or so. I am hoping with weight loss I'll get the best of both - normal flow, length, and cycle length.

I had suffered with this since I started having my period at age 9 :tongue2:. It got worse as I got older and heavier. About two years ago, I could not take it any more and went to my GYN for my options. I now have a Mirena IUC (they don't call them IUDs anymore) and I have been pain and period free for about a year and a half now. I may have a light period that lasts for about two days but that only occurs every 4-6 months.

It was the best thing I could have done for my menorrhagia.:smile2:

My periods have been getting heavier and heavier and now I'm having 2 periods a month. The Dr said I should have an endometrial ablation (novasure) for the menorrhagia. I am scheduled to have the ablation 2 weeks after my lap band surgery. I've already met my deductable for this year and I might as well get it all done in the next 2 months and start 2009 off right.

Best of luck to you with your menorrhagia.

I had very bad periods since starting @ 8 yrs old. They got worse the older I got with a lot of pain and heavy heavy bleeding. It got so that if I sat wrong I would start bleeding. They couldn't figure out what was causing it. The doctors tried a lot of things and finally decided on a hysterectomy. Thank God for that. I have been pain free since June 6, 2007.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
