how to get home from surgery

Recommended Posts

I am having surgery the 10th of November. For some reason, our surgeon makes us stay overnight. Will I will be well enough to check out by myself and take a cab home (10 minutes away)? It Dr. Ren from NYU.

I was, but we are all different. Can you plan on that but have a PLAN B just in case?

I know everyone's different but I think it would be fine.

The day after I had mine, me and the girl that I was at the airport/hospital/hotel with walked several blocks to a few stores near the hotel. I took a cab home from the airport the following day and was also fine with making a grocery store run that day.

Good luck and try to arrange a ride if you don't feel comfortable on your own. :)

Can you pre-arrange a ride with the cab company? I was well enough to ride home with my husband the day after surgery. But, you will be pretty tired. Good luck!

My hospital has a policy where you can not be released alone or to a waiting cab or bus. I could not be wheeled out of the hospital until a family member or friend arrived to go over after care with them.

I left the same day but was there several hours after surgery to get over some pretty bad nausea. So I was quite lucid by the time I was discharged. If it were allowed and necessary I could have taken a cab.

You should at least check the policy of the surgical center/hospital - I agree with previous posters; You might be fine to go alone, but I've had several surgeries and have always had to sign or agree that I'd have someone pick me up, or all bets were off. So, make sure. I've heard of a couple who arranged for limo service after their surgery. At one of the surgical centers here in Chicago, they provide you with round trip limo service - it's a thought. I really like the idea of a pre-arranged cab ride.

Best of luck to you.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
