November 12th here. I am so excited/nervous I could just....

This emotional rollercoaster has got to settle down. I am reading everything I can get my hands on and still I feel like I need/want more info, more testimonies, more ideas of how to avoid problems. I wonder if I will ever feel ready and at peace?

Yeah! I'm going to be banded on Nov. 19th. I'm not so much scared of the surgery. But I'm more scared of either failing again or being one of the people who just has problem after problem after problem.

My surgery date is Nov 19th also, I am excited and looking forward to it, I am trying to be positive and look to the future, the outcome will be worth the effort it will take to get there, be strong, be kind and win, win, win....no long term goals here, each 10 lbs will be a major accomplishment and I will look in the mirror and smile at the person I look at and say..."see, I told you we could do it" LOL :tongue:

Wow Pink, you've got a great attitude. I needed that right now. I'm riding an emotional rollercoaster, but reading your post made me feel much better and I can do this. Look to the future. THANKS, Pink

I agree, great attitude Pink! I've had such a mix bag of emotions since I've decided to do this. I sometimes feel like you, Pink, and think how wonderful things will be this time next year. I'm going on a Disney cruise with my family in September and all I can think about is, maybe I can actually enjoy this vacation without being MISERABLE! I won't be carrying around all this extra weight, I will feel so much better about myself! Then, there is the other side of me that relates so much to No Shrinking Violet...I'm on this site all the time reading and trying to get as much info as I possible can and yet I feel like I still haven't even touched the surface on what my future is actually going to be like! I need more info, have lots of questions and want to try and avoid all the things I read that terrify me about this surgery....I know everyone is different and we all won't experience the same things, but there are lots of similar problems that people have that just terrify me and I want to do everything I can to avoid that situation! Is that even possible:mellow:

I'm sure everyone goes through similar feelings at some point prior to surgery. Its just great to have this forum so that we can all come here and discuss whatever is on our mind, good or bad!

I wish good luck to ALL of us!!! I hope we can all keep in touch!!!

:thumbup:I have my initial consultation on Monday and plan to be banded just before Thanksgiving. My emotions are all over the freaking place too...scared (I have never had any kind of surgery before), excited, hopeful, terrified, trepidatious, ecstatic....

Looking forward to keeping in touch!

My emotions are all over the place too, but I've gotta tell ya -- I'm more scared of living one more year at this size or bigger than I am about a procedure that sounds, for all intents and purposes, like a breeze. I've already lost my gall bladder due to my weight, and that was worse than natural childbirth times 10.

I'm scheduled for Nov 6th. Yeah!!

I go Monday for tests all day, so hopefully that all goes well!

I'm also very nervous---but I'm so excited. I just want to get it done now!

I'm not going through the "eating my last supper" though--I'm kind of the opposite. I've been eating better this week since I got the approval. Seems like if I start now, it'll be easier once I start the liquid diet.

Does everyone do the 2 wk liquid diet here then? (before surgery)

By the way...anyone else in Iowa?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
