Ouch! Ouch! I'm in pain! I'm on the second day of my pre-op and I'm in sugar withdrawal. Major Migraine goin' on here. I know it will be better tomorrow, though.

I saw this show on the Discovery channel the other day about brain structure and personality. They said that if you repeat positive "self talk", you can change the anatomy of your brain so that you will automatically think positive and actually be happier and more successful at your endeavors. I need to do that. I've been such a Debbie Downer all my life! Everything I read about this surgery says that a positive attitude makes all the difference.

Maybe I'll start tomorrow after this blasted headache goes away. :(

(They didn't say anything about procrastination.)

After surgery, for about a week, you're going to have a lot of gas build-up in your body. Partly from the gases used to inflate your abdomen during surgery, and partly from the surgery itself - the gases will be trapped in your stomach and they have to get out somehow!

A lot of people say Gas-X strips helped relieve the gas pressure. And an equal number of people say the Gas-X strips did nothing to alleviate the pains. I am part of the latter group - the only thing that actually helped the gas pains was to let the gas out, and unfortunately for me, that was from the lower half of my body, haha.

Hi everyone,

Best of luck to everyone being banded soon and congrats to those already banded. I was banded on 4th November and was one of the lucky ones to have virtually no pain and a quick recovery. My port scar is nearly completely healed and apart from getting a bit itchy causes me no problems at all. From the time I got out of recovery I have only had a few asprin and haven't had any pain meds at all. I started mushies on the weekend and what a pleasure it was to have some 'real food' - if you can call it that as it was put through a blender.

I had to do a 2 week preop diet and lost 10pds. Went back to the dietician on the weekend and have lost another 10.5pds since surgery. I am still not feeling hungry and am just eating at the required times. My dietician tells me I should start feeling hungry again around week 4.

Once again, good luck to everyone being banded and I wish you all a speedy and painless recovery.

WOW, BOPPER!!!! I hope my surgery goes as well as yours did!!!! So glad to hear you had minimal pain and a quick recovery! We should all be so lucky!! Congrats and all the best to you!

I hope your stomach isn't doing flips on surgery day. The doctor won't be able to place the band if your stomach is doing flips!!! :):(

Good luck!!!

By the way, how are you feeling? Are you getting use to your band?

I feel great! Fabulous, really. It's funny - there's only a few people in my office that know I got the band. But in the last week, people who don't know what I had done have mentioned how "great" I look. Several have noticed a drastic difference just in how I carry myself and how happy I act all the time. It's crazy! This is by far the best decision I've ever made in my life!

Now, those 10 bites of banana pudding I had an hour ago - NOT such a good idea. I made the mistake of eating the ONE vanilla wafer in my bowl! :(

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
