I asked this on a post of mine but never got an answer.......so can someone clue me in?? I am going to buy all my stuff soon and I just want to make sure I have EVERYTHING I need.

I always wear a wire. Now, granted while I was home recovering for 4 days I was bra-less, but once I went back to work, I went right back to a wire. My port is low enough that it doesn't bother me.

Most of us have 1 incision between our breasts right where the underwire would like (out of 5-6 for laproscopic surgery). It is just placement that hurts.

Also, if you are on the busty side, the weight of your breasts are pushing on those underwires and it is too much pressure for comfort on the incision location.

I didn't think it would be that big of a deal, but the first time I wore an underwire to work a couple of days post surgery, I actually went home to change it.

Sports bras work great . . . and they don't have to be an expensive one, you can get them for a few bucks at Walmart (although cheap ones give you uni-boob sometimes). Really, the comfort is sooo worth it and it is definitely better than trying to go braless, lol.

What she said. I just started wearing my sports bra yesterday at 6 days post op.

I think it really depends on your incisions. Mine were no where near the bra line. I would not buy one until after surgery. You may not need it. I was on the busty side, I started in a H cup (yes there is such a thing) since losing 80 pounds I am in a double d. Heck even my running bra has underwire. I really need the support, but had no trouble post banding.

I didn't have a problem with my underwires after a few days after surgery. My incision was not at that level. I think its' recommended for comfort not anything else.

I need that underwire to keep the girls up and proud LOL

I wore an underwire bra home from surgery with no problems. I guess it depends on the placement of your port. My bra does not touch my incisions.

I wore my underwire home from the surgery center but hey it came off as soon as I got home. It did bother me pressure mainly. You might get a bra shirt which I love them and wear them alot or a sports bra. They are cheap enough and you might not want to go out shopping right after surgery; also get a heating pad and an ice pack. I left the surgery center with one but found the old fashion refillable one was the best and never leaked. The heating pad prevented the shouldher pain they say can happen I used it and never had it. The ice pack over the port worked great for pain and swelling. I also took the nausea med and pain med scheduled for the first few days and never had a problem with that either. I did get a little nauseated when I got home and took the meds along with a cool washcloth on my forehead helped ease the feeling while sitting in front of a fan. Also I am short and my bed was tall so a step stool for ease of getting in and out of bed was very helpful. I am excited for you and hope this helps : )

my doctor's office told us to mark where our bra hit and were our pants hit on the waist and mark with a sharpie so that the doctor would have a "road map" so as not to place the incision too close to either of them..... but i never heard anyone say wear or don't wear an underwire....

I too heard that an underwire was recommended after surgery. But I didn't get one. I've never liked them and refuse to wear them. So no underwire for me. I feel it's an individual choice. Not a requirement.

I saw "wireless bra" in the title, and I'm thinking, who needs a cell phone in her bra?

For years I wouldn't wear an underwire bra, then they went a bit more "south". I went to a specialty shop and they did a real bra measurement. I was wearing the wrong size and the wrong type of bra. They fitted me for a Goddess (brand) underwire bra and It was like being liberated. I bought two of them and then with my right size bought a few more underwires at a department store. I am very happily wearing them, although they are a tad too big in the cup size now I will wear them till they don't fit at all. Then get more in smaller size and be measured again. I won't go back to non underwires execpt for sports bras.

I too had the high incision, almost between the breasts, and just recently had more laproscopic surgery, and the incision this time is EXACTLY where my bra band hits---underwire was not an option for the healing period.

Take the most comfortable things you have...save the fashion show for later!!! I was told to go braless....well I had to fly home, and was afraid I would turn around and take out a flight attendant, so I wore an older, well worn comfy bra and made it just fine.

No idea why they would recommend one though-----------none at all!
