Can anyone help me out in Knoxville?

Welcome to Knoxville!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can get fills at Fort Sanders Parkwest with a Dr. Boyce. I think he is still located there. I also hear they are doing fills at University of Tennessee because they are doing the band there as well. Dr. Colquitt, also does them in Maryville at Blount Memorial Hospital. I hope this helps.

    Favorite Oldie Song

Everlasting Love by Tony Terry and Secret Lovers by Atlantic Star. I absolutely love these songs!!!!!!!!!!
  5. My surgery was cash pay so I didn't deal with the insurance company. One thing I wanted to mention was I had all of those test performed and more. My doctor explained to me that my chest x-ray was to be done within 3-4 days of my surgery. All other test were to be done within 1-2 weeks before my surgery. He said he didn't want any unexpected complications to come up as peoples medical conditions can change in a matter of days. I know it is frustrating and I certainly understand. I just wanted to give you an insight from a different POV. I hope this helps. Wishing yo all the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. I wore an underwire bra home from surgery with no problems. I guess it depends on the placement of your port. My bra does not touch my incisions.

A typical day in the life?

Hello there!!!!!!!!! Basically I start my day off with a small cup of orange juice or milk at approx 5:30 in the morning. I am usually not hungry this early. I am at work by 7:30 and still not hungry. Around 9:30 I am starting to get hungry and I will have yogurt or oatmeal. That keeps me satisfied. I will eat lunch around 12:30 or 1:00 and I can only eat 1/2 of a cup of chicken and veggies. I have dinner no later than 5:30 because I like to be at the gym by 7:00. I know its crazy but my gym is so crowded that I can't get to the machines before 7:00 so I don't even bother. Its quite annoying. This is where I have problems because after I work out I am hungry again. I work out 5-6 days a week from 45 mins to an hour. I am an extremely slow loser but my starting weight was 226 and I am 5'8. The best part about being banded is not being hungry all day. I do not drink the 8 glasses of Water a day because I am not that thirsty. My doctor told me not to worry about it. He says if you are thirsty then drink. I was trying to force myself to drink a lot of water and was literally making myself sick. Its hard to eat out with frinds because no one knows that I have the band. I have to eat slowly and take small bites and everyone stares at me like I am crazy. I hope this helps!!!!!!!!!!

    Shhh...Keep it in the Closet!?

Yes I think that silence is a sign of being non-supportive. In a way I am glad that I didn't tell anyone. Only my mom knows and that is because I needed a ride to and from the surgery center. If it weren't for that then I wouldn't have told her. I am a very private person and I don't share anything personal about me with anyone in my life. Its kind of weird that no one knows about my surgery. Its as if I don't have the band at all. Wishing everyone all the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Help, I'm Starving!!!

I am sorry you are so hungry but trust me I understand how you feel. Everyone's level of hunger varies. I've heard some people say they were hungry on the first day. I didn't get hungry until day 7 and by day 10 I wanted to eat my arm (but I refrained from doing so lol). Once you are able to have soft foods aka mushies it won't be so bad. I'm not sure what your doctor allows you to eat because every doctor is different. Please follow whatever plan your doctor chose for you and you will soon be over this hump. I know it is difficult but you can do it. Wishing you all the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Pretty darn tight..

I am sorry that you are filled too tight. Is there another doctor who works in the same office as the one who performed your surgery or perhaps physicians assistant or a nurse pratictioner who could help you? I can imagine how bad you must feel. If all else fails you could check around in your area and have another doctor take some out. It may cost more than you'd like to pay because some doctors don't like to take on someone elses patients. But in the case of an emergency I'm sure they would be willing to help. You could also try to find a fill center close to you. I think they are called fill center USA which are in different states. They primarily service patients who have had their surgeries in other countries. I hope you can get help soon.

    Pretty darn tight..

Some bands do go to 10 cc's. It depends on what type of band that is placed in you. There are a lot a varying factors which determine how tight the band will be once place around the stomach. Some people have more visceral fat which would also affect how tight the band will be.

    Pretty darn tight..

I am at 4.4 in a 4 cc's band and my doctor told me that he has several patients who have a 4 cc's band and are over the typical 4cc's. I was starting to think there was something wrong with my band. He check everything and I was told that it was in perfect condition and there was nothing wrong with it. He said its not unusual to go over. I know it seems strange because I hear some people say that they couldn't swallow their own spit when filled to the max let alone be able to go past the max. I can eat anything except bread and rice. Its just too much trouble and not even worth trying.

    Would you do it again?

I have IBS it I thought that when I got the band that my problems would go away. Many people experience many different symptoms when having irritable bowel syndrome. One of my symptoms was that my stomach constantly rumbles and I get extremely bloated to the point that I want to throw up. The bloating was causing pressure on my other organs as well. My stomach will rumble and growl and swell to the point of looking pregnant. When my stomach is rumbling and growling I am producing a lot of gas thus causing my stomach to hurt and I often feel a stinging sensation or sharp pains in my stomach. It took me about 5 months and to finally figure out that the band was trapping the excess gas inside of my stomach and I discussed this with my band doctor. He simply said to change the way I eat. My family doctor was finally able to help me and agreed that the band was trapping in excess gas and gave me a prescription. Our bodies naturally produce gas and we release these gasses through burps and flatulence. Also certain foods that we eat will cause gas. I am extremely sensitive to artificial sweeteners. They are a complete no no for me. The pains from these sweeteners will have me doubled over in pain for days. I have to take an anti-spasmadic meds 4 times a day. I noticed that you said you were in constant pain. Well so was I for 5 months straight. I know it sounds crazy but your problems sound a lot like mine. I had every test performed possible and my band was just fine. Now I can go days with no pain but I have to take my anti-spasmadic meds everyday. If I miss a day then the pain comes back. Try to stay away from milk products and artificial sweeteners for about a week and see if that helps. I hope this helps and I am wishing you all the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    IBS with the band.

I have suffered from IBS for 10 years and my symptons went away completely for about 2 years until I got banded. All of my symptoms have returned with a vengence and I find that for me it is worse because the band is wrapped around my stomach trapping in the excess gas that I produce. My stomach is always rumbling and growling and I stay extremely bloated and I either have the runnies or I am constipated (sorry). I have to take Levisin 4 times a day and if I don't there will be hell to pay. I am also very sensitive to artificial sweeteners and they tend to make me extremely bloated as well. My doctor says some peoples symptons will go away and for others they will still have problems. I hope your problems will go away for you but I wanted to let you know that its a possibility that they may not. Wishing you all the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  18. I was self pay as well. I had went to several seminars over the last few years and my doctor actually remembered speaking with me so I didn't have to attend another one. I had my consultation the 1st of Nov. and scheduled my pre-op testing and dietary class. After all of my testing and labs were cleared I was scheduled for surgery on Dec. 26th. I could have had the surgery sooner but I wanted to wait until after Christmas. I had a low bmi (34.6) so I didn't have to do a pre-op diet. I hope this help. Wishing you all the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ****Sensitive Topic****

I started back about 3 weeks out and it was all good lol! I actually asked my GYN because she has had the surgery herself and she said that I could do anything that didn't cause me any discomfort. If you do feel pain then just get on top and that should take care of it:) Many people have problems with their port healing properly so only you will know how your port feels. I didn't have any problems with my port healing. My port is about 3-4 inches below my bra and I like it there. My bra doesn't rub against my port and neither does my jeans. I hope this helps. Wishing you all the best!!!!!!!!!!

    Shhh...Keep it in the Closet!?

Mommie of 4, I don't think the surgery center or hospital will let you leave alone even if you are walking. At least thats how it was where I got my surgery done at. The hospital staff walked me out to the car and made my mom pull in front of the door. I really don't blame them because I was so sleepy that I couldn't even think straight. I couldn't even dress myself. I felt that way for a while. If you really want to keep it a secret don't tell anyone about the surgery. Call around the day before your procedure and tell someone that you have to have your gallbladder removed ASAP and you will need a ride home. Have a cab drop you off the day of the procedure. The surgery staff will call someone for you when you are ready to check out. My friend had her gallbladder removed and our scars are identical except she doesn't know I had surgery. No one does except my mom and I wish she didn't know. Its cool though because she is sworn to secrecy and if she tells there will be hell to pay lol! Wishing you all the best!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hair

I got banded in Dec. 2007 and I haven't noticed any differece. I am growing out my hair naturally and I wash it everyday. My hair is very healthy and has grown out very long but I think that is because I haven't had a relaxer in 18 months. I eat my protein first and then vegetables and if I'm still hungry I will eat carbs. I spoke to my doctor about this and he said very few of his patients complain about hair loss. I hear that if one does experience hair loss then Biotin will help. Good luck!!!!!!!!!

    Where will YOU shop?

I LOVE Abercrombie and Fitch and I can't wait to shop there. I also want to shop at Kitsons. I am so fascinated with designer jeans, such as Sevens for all Mankind, Lucky, Paper and Denim, Citizens of Humanity, and True Religion. I know I am such a label whore LOL. Wishing everyone the best with the band!!!!!!!!!
