Summer Weightloss Challenge

Recommended Posts

Wow! I am really impressed with everyone's progress and dedication.

Vera -- you are looking good!

Adam -- GREAT JOB!!! You are doing fantastic!

Patty -- Congratulations on your upcoming wedding... I hope you lose those 20lbs by Labor Day... but make sure you don't shrink out of your wedding dress :(

I got my fill yesterday... only 1cc and I am on fluids for 48 hours, but I can feel a difference already... so I hope I can get off the 3 extra pounds I put on before we started this challenge.

FAB job everyone!!!

Sassaay,

My wedding dress is (was?) a little tight, so I dont think that 20 lbs will make a big difference, but I havent tried it on in about a month, maybe I better try it on tonight!!

I had a fill yesterday, too, I feel like I have a fresh start today!!

Patty

Hi Patty,

Let us know how the dress fitting comes along. We will also want to see your wedding photos after the big event. By the way, what date is the big event?

I glad I gave you all a good laugh....That was Penni's bathing suit challenge.

I didn't see my name on the list so I guess I'm not participating either or I'm so computer-idiotic that I can't figure out how to get my name on....Either way Johnathan seems mighty busy, I'll be tracking.

No, I must've just missed the post =) What's your starting weight?

Anybody can join at any time, but we've always said that they had to use whatever their weight was on the day they joined. I'm not one for too many ruels -- just enough to keep some structure. If it's going to create any hard feelings, I'll go back and change it, but for now, I've put your starting weight at 356.

Good luck! Sounds like *we'll* need it though, not you =)

Jonathan

I would like to join if it's not too late. I know that I weighed 375 on Monday June 27 because I went to get another fill because my 2nd fill didn't really do the trick. Only problem was my blood pressure was too high so I couldn't get the fill until today. So my starting weight as of June 27 is 375, but as of today the scale at the Surgical Center said 356 so that is my current weight banana.gif Yep 19 pounds in a week and a half! And 70 pounds so far(ignore my ticker. I haven't had time to update it!) After floating around the 376 area for about a month and a half I started back on a eating program that I did before being banded called Natural Hormonal Enhancement(www.extique.com) It's a really great program! If anyone wants to know about it just ask me. Here are some pics I took tonight. My before pics can be found here http://lapbandtalk.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1192&stc=1

I am a late joiner to the summer challange. Joining today, July 7th, weight is 238. Goal is to lose 20 pounds by Labor Day. :eek I know, I know, how ridiculous is that goal? I set hard goals but want to be under 180 by Christmas! :(

but since you round it off...

pssst, Vera, he doesn't round, he does something with integers that have something to do with decimals in a computer system and anyway, it's not rounding. It's ignoring what's after the decimal on your scale. He 'splained all that to me so I thought I'd let you know...:(

hello. This is my first day here on the blog. I was wondering if I could join in on your summer challenge? I have not yet been banded.

I started my liquid diet on Tuesday, July 5, 2005. I weighed in at a whopping 308! Oh the shame. I weighed myself this morning on the same scale in the same place and discovered that it said in a clear LCD readout 297!!! YES!! that is right~~ ELEVEN (11) pounds in three days. I realize that most of that is Water weight as that is what usually comes off first. I am still excited none the less.

I have no qualms about taking a before picture in my swimsuit. I think it will add GREAT SHOCK value for people who will look at the picture of me as I am now and then look over and see the future me in all my glory. I can hardly wait to reveal the healthier me that I have long since burried under layers of fat to protect myself.

Well if you all don't mind I would love to participate in your summer challenge. Please let me know if I may. Thank you .

Best of luck to you all !

Tina

I don't think any of us can be trusted with our own body image. Even with the slower weight loss of the band vs. bypass, our minds can't keep up with the change... and long after the weight is gone, we see ourselves as much bigger than we really are...

Or, at least, that's what I've been told everytime I say something about how I look, or looked, when I lost a lot of weight before. =)

Anyway, you look great to me.. just keep smiling, you have a beautiful smile. =)

Jonathan

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
