Hi everyone: I just joined this group today. My 18 y/o daughter is having her lap band surgery tomorrow morning. My wife is having hers done this coming Tuesday and I am scheduled for the end of October. We are all going into the great unknown. We are fortunatre that here in NH, there is a new law that mandates bariatric surgery for treatment or morbid obesity or comorbidity. The law went in to effect this month and we were rejected earlier by our insurance provider but now can have it done thanks to the new law.

Welcome. You sound like our family, a couple years ago. My daughter had her band done in October 2006, and my husband and I did it in October 2007. Daughter's boyfriend is banded, and so is his mother. We are a happy band family.

It's pbing, not bping, and it stands for "productive burping" which is when you bring food back up because you have eaten too fast, too much, or the wrong type of food that can't get past the band. Your mouth and stomach produce more and more saliva and mucus to try to get the food through, but when it can't go down, everything has to come back up. Sometimes it's just a burp with baggage, but sometimes it is more like a true vomiting, although the stuff you bring up isn't as gross because it hasn't mixed with stomach acids. That's probably more info than you bargained for, but we aim to please.

Hi PinePal - thank you for the well wishes! My wife, daughter and I are actually having it done at the Cheshire Medical Center in Keene (I live one town over from Keene). They have a great new program, and the waiting time os fairly brief. I see you are from Lebanon. I sang in a concert at the Lebanon Opera House on Saturday evening.

Welcome fellow New Englander! I am on the RI/MA line! I was banded in Boston in August and it was the best choice I have ever made! I cannot wait to see the results....Good luck to your whole family on your journey into band land!

Hi Liquidbluegal - nice to here from another New Englander. I was in Smithfield RI several weeks ago teaching a music class. As a kid, I used to spend my summers with my aunt in Newport. You've lost amost 27 lbs in 5 weeks? Awesome! How did you fell post-surgery?

I am not Snowbird, but I will try to answer about "frothing." When something gets stuck (mostly food but I had a pill get stuck that I took in a hurry instead of cutting in half) you get discomfort in your chest (you will definitely know exactly where your band is sitting). Productive burping is more prounouced than regular burping, sometimes bringing up some of the food you consumed because there is too much in your pouch. If you are truly stuck the saliva will start and it has no place to go but up and out. You don't get nauseated (at least I didn't) but you need to spit up. It is an impressive amount of saliva. Here we don't call it "frothing." We call it "sliming." I think we all experience it sooner or later. My stuck food experience was at work and I spent about 2 hours in and out of the bathroom. I work for cardiologists so if it had gotten too bad I would have called for help, but I didn't feel sick, just really uncomfortable. It finally resolved and I was fine. Patchelton - Thanks for the explanation. When this happens to me, I hope someone doesn't think I've become rabbid - LOL! My wife's cousin was banded in February and she talked about the frothing but wouldn't explain at the time what it was. What was the worst part of being banded?

Good Morning! Yeah I know I am surprised myself that I have lost that much and I am not restricted at all. My first fill is not until October 8th so I cannot wait.

I had my first experience with frothing/sliming last night... It was crazy but I just walked around and the food went down...I have a problem with eating to fast.

Are you feeling hungry yet? I've been told that until your first fill, it can be hell. My daughter was banded Thursday and wife will be banded tomorrow. Their fear is overdoing it before they can be filled.

I can eat anything...I am starving and I cannot wait for my first fill! October 8th cannot come fast enough.
