There is liquid Advil, look for liquid Motrin, same stuff, but that is still an NSAID and is a no-no for bandsters. I hear some folks say it's fine once or twice a month, just not everyday, I hear others swear it off completely. Also, be sure to check the dosage and make sure you are getting the right amount of medicine as you WOULD be taking with the pills. IF you decide to take the liquid Motring instead. Maybe you'll get some better ideas here though. sorry you feel yucky!!

Thermacare heat wraps are a gift from the goddess.

Be careful with them, you might burn your tummy. I wear the wraps generally on the outside of my panties and sometimes they still get too hot, but you know what? When I use these I usually don't need any other pain killer. None. It's Thermacare wraps for me, or hydrocodone because I have really bad cramps.

If you have to take the pills, make sure you drink a big glass of Water with it to wash it out of your pouch.

I don't know if you are on any form of BC, but I used to have BIG TIME problems with PMS and cramps - I changed to the Nuvaring and now my monthly episode is almost non-existant. No more cramps and barely any period. If you are on BC - I would highly recommend the nuvaring!! (no taking pills everyday either!)

You can get liquid Children's Motrin. I used to take it at the start of a really bad headache because liquid works faster than pills. You just have to figure out the correct doseage. One Motrin/Ibuprofen pill is 200mg so you have to figure how much liquid equals the amount of pill you want. I can always help you with that. (I am an RN)

The heating pads also sound like a good idea. Another idea would be going to a natural food store or somewhere like GNC and see about more natural supplements that could help.

Best of luck to you.

This won't help with the cramps but have you considered Depo Provera? It is an injection that you take every 12 weeks and most women stop having a cycle all toghther by the time the 2nd dose is given. I have been on it since right after my daughter was born and LOVE it. I have not had my "aunt flo"visit in like 4 years. Some women do spot on and off for the first 12 weeks but that is not common and it is cheaper than the pill too.~Mandy

Am I the only one that loves a good old fashioned pain pill? I have Lortab left over from my surgery. In the past, I put so much fried food, sugar, fat and crap in my body that I ended up over 300 pounds, so why is taking a pill so harmful (gotta laugh.)

Drugs to me are safer than food, so when I have pain, I take pain pills. If I don't have Lortab I take 2 Tylenol with 1/2 Xanax for headaches, which works wonders.

Don't get me wrong I am all about taking something for pain when I need it. But, if I can skip a period I am all about that too. I have a wonderful doctor that will give me pain meds if I need them, a simple phone call and she calls them in. She has already given me a list of band friendly pain meds and told me to read the risk/side effects so I will know what I want when I need them again after banding. ~Mandy

I'm one of those who was told liquid advil/motrin or Advil liqui-gels are o.k. a few times a month. The only thing that works for me is tylenol (liquid) & advil combo for 2 days. Thermacare wraps did nothing. I can't take hormones, having had breast cancer. What does your doctor say?

Ok! This is a lil off the subject but I figure I just gotta jump in here. New to the site (<-------- actually first post) and I have been reading and researching. New at that too. Anyway I was reading on this post and did not realize taking normal medication is going to be a situation when haveing the band. I am currently on BC, Is that going to be a problem to take every day? Also, I am searching the boards now, does anyone have some good websites they recommend for me to learn. Thanks for any help!!

Wishin, I am not banded but from what I understand as long as it is smaller than a pencil eraser you can still take it. (except for NSAIDS) If it is larger than an eraser you should break it in half, after checking with the doctor or pharmisist to be sure it is safe to do. liquid forms of medications seem easier and safer when they are possible, that would be a better choice. (most meds are available in liquid)~Mandy

P.S. welcome to LapBandTalk

Delarla - you actually should not skip periods unless you are on a medication that causes this to occur. Commonly depo, nuvaring and some BC will cause you to have very light periods and sometimes not have them monthly. Not having a period (commonly occurs with PCOS), can actually increase your chances of cervical and other female cancers. I have PCOS and am HORRIBLE at remembering to take a pill everyday - thus another reason I chose the Nuvaring.

WILLBETHIN - yes you can take BC - I have just chosen a method (nuvaring) that does not require pills and lightens your period and cramps.

Thanks for the insight ... I don't have bad periods at all (which im greatfull for) so I didn't want to hear that I would have to find some other form of medication to keep the babies away for a couple of more years. Off to more research! Thanks Again!!! Oh Yeah! Is taking medication a forever ordeal with the band or only after fills and early stages of post op?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
