including a personal letter with your insurance claim

Recommended Posts

I am wondering if anyone included a personal letter when their surgeon submitted information to insurance? My insurance has been helpful but the coordinator at my dr's office seems to really not know my insurance's policy. I would like to just include a letter that summarized a co-morbidity (hypertension) and points out that I have switched doctors for the six month diet (the insurance said that is fine) because I am having problems managing the hypertension (meds are not working) and two other obesity related problems (issuing sleeping and edema in my foot). This would also sort of point out that the dr is changing my bp meds to a more expensive (covered) med and that he has ordered one test and will order another (again, more obesity related expenses).

Absolutely, your letter, your doctors letter, the more the better. Emory gave sample letters out that help patients to achieve the goal. Ask your doctors office if they have any samples. If not research on the internet for one. My insurance would not pay, so I went to Tijunana. My father went through Emory.

Yes, my doctor requires a personal letter which documents your attempts at weight loss, your family history, and so on. I really was descriptive with everything. Ended up with a 7 page letter to send in. I started with a lower BMI so wanted to say everything I needed to say in order to get qualified. It worked. Approved within 30 days

I am almost done with my 3 month dr. followed weight loss program as required by atena my insurance company.I knew going into this atena can be sticklers so I went above and beyond what was asked. I have a 3 month journal of everything I have eaten or drank. A personal letter Written by my family doctor stating that he feels this surgery would be helpful and why he included my health issues and how long I have been dealing with them. My doctor charged me 25.00 to write this but I am willing to do almost anything to get this done. I kept a exercise journal, had my personal trainer at the gym write a letter, and the person who has benn following my diet progress wrote a very detailed letter as well. I now wait and hope!!! good luck I hope this helped

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
