Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Hey Dr. Kirshenbaum samurais

One more question. I am getting surgery at Crown Point. Do you have a recommendation for a hotel. The Hampton Inn is close. (only 2 minutes away) The Marriot (11 min) has been nice in other cities. Select Hotel by Holiday Inn is 6 minutes away. What do you think?

Thanks in advance for the help. I need to make reservations tomorrow.

Hey, this is just a thought but you may want to stay closer to Dr.K's office in Aurora. When you are sent home from the surgery ctr. you should feel pretty good thx to lots of meds making the drive easier. I'm assuming Dr.K will want to see you in his office the following day when you are a little more sore/uncomfortable. Plus, you will be closer for pre-op appt. etc. This is just a thought tho. If the Marriott is closer to Aurora I would probably recommend that.

Good thinking. I hadn't thought of that! I didn't know he would want to see me the next day. THANKS!

I had my surgery today. I feel great so far! Minimal pain, my throat is starting to feel better and so far I really haven't had any shoulder pain from the gas. I was going to stay in town until 3:0pm, but the way it is going I bet we leave before noon. I don't think I will need to stop and see Dr. K tomorrow. His staff is SO NICE. I will get to see his new office the week of Thanksgiving when I go in for my first fill.

Thanks for all the nice words of encouragement. "

I'm so happy I'm with the band!"

Hey guys I'm back. I'm about 10 days post op and feeling good. I have a question for you. According to my dietary guidelines that Paula gave me it had me on a liquide diet day 2-14 but able to start to transition to soft food during week two. Well I did transition into soft food on day 7. I feel great. It made me start to feel like I was healing. My question is with most people telling me this is a really fast transition to soft food I am a little worried that I read this wrong.

What was your experience? Also I have my first fill in a couple of weeks. How did that go for you? I know every doctor is different. That is why I wanted to ask you about this.

Thanks for your support. I know I am an October baby....but I kind of think of you guys as older (and wiser) sisters.

Hi Julie.ann. I was feeling very faint and almost dizzy a few days after my surgery, and Natalie had me start soft stuff on day 4. Just go slow an you'll be fine. Sounds like you're doing great! I had my 1st fill this past thurs. Didn't hurt at all, just felt strange when the saline was going in the tubing. (inside) I don't feel any more restriction. I just eat slow. Good luck! I'm going for a walk now, been putting it off for a couple hours. UGH!

Julie.Ann~

Congrats on being in bandland! :w00t: I'm glad you are feeling well.

I know a lot of ppl do not follow the post-op diet. I did follow it to a "T" but be careful. The main reason they don't want you eating "real" foods to soon is b/c they don't want the stomach churning/moving. They want the band to heal and stay in place. I think Dr.K is rather leniant on his post-op diet compared to other Drs. Dr.K also said I could start running again when I felt ok. My PCP said probably not a good idea until at least 4 wks. So, I started running @ wk 5 and did well.

Fills are easy! :D Unless, you get too tight. Then it can be miserable. Dr.K is really sensitive to ppl being over-filled tho so this usually won't happen. I only have 0.65cc's in and have a lot of restriction. I've been debating on getting some removed but I am no longer in Colorado and would have to pay $200.:rolleyes2: Part of the restriction feeling is also knowing your new "full" feeling. I get mine in the chest and know its time to stop. If I don't, I will get the hiccups and know I've pushed the limits. I struggle w/this on a daily basis tho as my mind/lrg. stomach tells me I can eat so much more.

Ambra~

I cannot believe he put 3.5cc's in for your 1st fill. What the heck girl? You still don't have restriction?:cool2: That is crazy! Like I said above, if I still had access to Dr.K I would be getting some of my Fluid removed. Everyone is so different. I ran a mile on Thurs. :tt2: I knew you would be proud and I thought of you every step of the way.

You went running? Wow! I went for a 3 mile walk yesterday, a heavy duty one at that. This hill is about straight up half the way. Part of me was thinking about running. I wanted to try, but feel like such a clutz. I'd probably fall. Way to go for you!!!!! I have no restriction at all. :( I'm not hungry but my "lower" stomach is growling and gurgling. Wierd! Well, need to try to go to sleep, back on nights tonight. Lord help me! Glad to see you here!!!!

Yup, figure I gotta start somewhere. I want to get back up to my 3 miles pre-op. I get bored walking on the treadmill even w/the ipod or tv. Now if I could walk outside that would be a different story. Its been so crappy and rainy here ever since we got home.

I'm not sure if I would rather have your problem w/no restriction or mine with. lol:lol: Like right now its 2:30 and I am tight so I haven't been able to eat anything yet today. I guess I have a lot of room in my band to work with. :rolleyes2:

Ugh...nights! I would actually like nights b/c I'm such a nightowl and up until the early hrs. of a.m. anyway. However, flip flopping that sleep schedule would be a difficult task.

TTYL!!

I just wish I could feel something. I don't, at least I don't think I do. Rotating nights/days, i'm in a foul mood right now. This will be night 3 and I couldn't fricken sleep. UGH~ Too tired to exercise after working 12 hours, but is it just an excuse? I parked at my friends house and walked to work and back with her last night. It's about a 15 min walk, doing that again tonight. Just don't know if it counts. Frustrated.

Ambra~

I did not lose any weight this week so I hope that makes you feel better. I wonder why you don't have restriction? I can eat almost anything too. However, if I eat something I probably shouldn't be I can tell w/my band. Ya know? Do you get a tight feeling in your chest at all? Hiccups? Those are my two main signs. I hope you experience restriction soon. I know you are frustrated but you will soon find your "sweet spot". Hang in there!!!

I'm the same way. I had a hysterectomy a few years ago and just this morning I thought I really want to eat everything in sight...I wonder if it is that time of the month. I would love to think I am retaining Water for that reason.

Hi-ya! :smile2: I just wanted to check in and see how my fellow bandsters are doing. Where did everyone go? We are not nearly as chatty as Dr.K's other thread.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
