How many mths after band can I get preg?

Recommended Posts

You should wait a year. That's what I have always heard and was told by my doctor. The reason for this is because A) your body is going through enough changes with the band, let alone adding the changes a pregnancy would bring. if you are losing weigh to get pregnant wouldn't you want to lose a good amount before concieving so that you could and have a healthy pregnancy? and C) Eating with the band is different, you need to make sure you body is well adjusted to the lifestyle change so that you and baby will be healthy and well nourished...Talk to your doctor he/she could have something different to say.

I think the previous post is very good advice. I (although wasn't expecting to so soon) got pregnant a month after my band. I am 9 weeks pregnant and miserable. We wanted to get pregnant. I just was having so many problems getting pregnant that I thought I'd go ahead and get banded and the baby would come later. Well, I guess the change in menality allowed me to finally get pregnant, but at an akward time. I am having more problems with the band now than before I got pregnant. Vomitting, not able to keep foods down that I could before. It is very trying. I would wait a while. I was still in the process of learning what I could and couldn't eat, and now with nausea and food aversions, it's making it even more difficult. (I'm still very excited about having a baby though ). Good luck with your decision.

My doctor also advised me to wait a year before getting pregnant, due to the bodily changes happening, and learning to eat with the band. I am not pregnant right now, but I am 4-months post-surgery, and can't really see myself having morning sickness!

It has been wonderful for me not to have heartburn and acid reflux since my surgery, and I can't imagine what constant nausea must be like, with the band! I know someday I will know (I have one daughter now, and we plan on having more), but I'm really glad that I haven't gotten pregnant so far.

I think, personally, a year is just enough time. Hopefully by next June I will have lost at least 60 or so pounds, in addition to what I've lost already. That would be awesome.

As far as the ginger soda goes, go for it. You're pregnant, and I know how morning sickness can be. Do whatever you need to do - no one will be judging you! Haha ...

Take care,

Sarah H.

Mys urgeon used to require 1 year and now requires 2. Haven't read the responses you've received, but ask your surgeon about his/her recommendations on wait.

I had to sign a "contract" saying that I would wait atleast 18 months to get pregnant. That is killing my husband because he is so ready for a baby, as am I but I'd rather lose weight and be healthy for my pregnancy. Since, I haven't been banded yet..I'm waiting on my date, we know that it's really worth it in the end.

I have been trying to conceive for 5 years with no luck. One of the reasons I got banded was to loose the weight so that I could get pregnant. I had that talk with my lap band Dr. and he cleared me to try and get pregnant right away. I was banded on August 14, 2008 and I am now pregnant. I lost 30 lbs during during those 3 months and was able to get pregnant very easily. I am 31 years old and did not want to wait any longer. So far I am doing good.....I just pray that God will bless us and there are no complications due to the band.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
