I am scheduled for my Pre-Op Psychologist meeting and nutritionist meeting. My Doctor told me that the Lapband works better for men, becuase they eat in volume.

It seems the majority of people getting the procedure are women.

Oh well:confused:

I think your doctor is probably quite right about it being an effective tool for men, but I think the lapband is just as effective for women too. Mostly for women I think the effect is psychological first and physical second.

Either way I am very happy to have my mine and I can work towards a better me!

Well that's good to know... I eat in volume (and I'm a woman). At the informational meeting given by my surgeon, there were about 40 people there. About 10 of them were men.

I eat in volume and my husband is a snacker. We decided that he wasn't a good candidate for the band. It's perfect for me because now I won't be ABLE to eat the 16 oz ribeye!

There is a separate forum on here for the guys. You might pop in there and ask for their opinion. Go to the main menu on the left of the page, and it is called "The Men's Room." A few of the guys from there post alot on the intro, pre- and post- op boards, but you can get a pile of answers from the guys if you go over the that forum too.

Hello,

I know a man who had it done and within a year he lost 180lbs. It is a known fact that mens metabolism is different than womens. I wish you luck on your journey.

almost identicaly - i was a volume eater & hubby grazed...mostly in the evenings but we both got banded the same day.

our surgeon told us not to compete (yeah right), because men will lose faster (his experience). he was right, hubby got to goal w/in 6 months.....me, not quite there. he still Snacks, but it's healthier choices rather than chips....

I had to giggle when you mentioned that men "eat in volume." I certainly got my lapband as a woman due to eating in volume, lol.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
