Who had surgery with Dr. Trace Curry and what was your experience? Have you had any problems with your lapband? If so, what was it and how quickly was it taken care of?

I had surgery with Dr. Curry on August 5th. I honestly haven't spoken to him in person too often (I'm sure because he's busy where he's needed - doing surgery), but his staff is wonderful and accessible during office hours. Any time I've had an after hours concern or question, I've emailed him directly and received responses so he appears to be very accessible as well.

As for complications: So far as I know (only a couple weeks out) everything is fine. I will find out early September if my port is still in position when they try to do my first fill. The good thing is, they use fluroscopy (sp?), so they can make sure everything is in place, and have an easier time getting the needle in for your first fill (or any subsequent fills where there are issues).

I see that you have surgery coming up soon, and that you chose Dr. Curry. I think you will be very happy with your choice!

Hi, your in great hands! He did my band on July 22nd. Just got my first fill. I have had no regrets picking Dr. Curry

i was banded by dr. curry april 2008. i did a lot of research on him as well as other surgeons in ohio and Mexico. i'm in cleveland and drove to cincinnati for my surgery and fills.

i have only seen dr. c for my initial consultation and the day of my surgery. at first i wasn't happy that he wasn't the one giving my fills but he DOES have a wonderful staff and dr. c is doing what he does best... the actual surgery.

after my surgery i had questions and concerns and emailed him directly. he ALWAYS responded quickly and he replies personally.

even with all the patients he has, when i call his office to schedule an appointment, Michele always remembers that i'm from out of town and knows to schedule me for saturday appointments close to the time that the support group meets.

i can't say enough good things about dr. curry and his staff!

I am considering Dr Curry. I have a BMI of 35.2, but I also have some other problems that might qualify me for the surgery with my insurance company Anthem BCBS. I have high cholesteral, Gerd and also lot's of problems with my feet like swollen tendons. Anyone out there have an experience with getting approved with a BMI on the lower side of the scale?

Hi-new on this thread. I am attending a Dr. Curry info session in the next couple of weeks. I am likely a self payer and found that the cost is less than Mt. Carmel here in Columbus. I am happy to know that people have had a good experience and that others even travel a bit to get his services. Thanks. This is very encouraging.

i knew before i started searching for a surgeon that i was going to be self pay. living in cleveland, i branched out my search for a good surgeon with an affordable cost from cincinnati to indiana to pennsylvania and even Mexico.

i disregarded mexico pretty much right away because i was just too scared to go out of the country (BUT dr. curry has been the only dr. i found that will do fills on patients who had surgery elsewhere!)

my choices were to stay in cleveland and pay $10,000 more and have to pay for all fills OR drive the 4 hours to dr. curry and have free fills for 2 years.

essentially is was dr. curry's great reviews that lead me to the decision to choose him. a good thing for you is he has recently opened a sattelite office in columbus for fills!

The info session with Dr. Curry is here in Columbus, which I was very happy to learn about, although I was ready to drive to Cincinnati. I am glad I found this thread. :thumbup:

Dr.Curry Stopped taking patients from out of country for fills. I have called his office and they are refusing to do fills on patients that are banded else where. They said due to volume of there patients also of there patients needs.

i do know Dr. Curry's office is always busy so i can understand why he can't take patients that were banded elsewhere. he has a lot patients of his own to treat.

actually, it's not only Dr. Curry who will only fill patients he's previously treated. i have a 2 hour commute to get fills in his office. i've called surgeons closer to home and they refuse to do fills if they didn't perform the surgery.

i wonder if it has to do with risk of complications and who would be to blame?

I had surgery on Feb. 8th, 2010 - with Dr. Curry. Does he have great bedside manners? No. Do I need him to? No. Most brilliant doctors aren't the most emotional ones - he gets the job done and he has a very high success rate (which is what everyone SHOULD be judging him on). His staff is amazing and that's what their job is for...support.

BTW - I don't blame him for not doing fills for those who had surgery out of the country (or elsewhere)...he has no clue what happened during surgery and what kind of job that surgeon did. Doing a fill could be a liability.

I totally agree. Dr. Curry probably doesn't have the best "bedside manner" but he did the job I asked of him. He made me feel comfortable during my initial consultation and I was very happy I chose him as my surgeon.

I was surprised when Dr. C. didn't give me my first fill but his staff are simply amazing.

I also have to say, I live 4 hours away from Cincinnati and I had my surgery before he opened the satellite office in Columbus. If I ever had a question, I emailed him and he ALWAYS responded within a couple of hours.

While he may not be there to hold your hand during your entire journey, he will make sure it is a successful one!

I went all the way to Ohio from Alaska to have my surgery with Dr. C. He is awesome. If I ever email him.. I get an almost instant response!! He is brilliant!! I am 11 days post op!! I have no regrets!! You will be very happy! He also is a band pt himself so he totally gets it!!
